What is more significant, a

degree or a skill?
Introduction of the topic
Introduction of the topic

 Dual side of the same coin.

 In order to be the survival of the fittest, both must work together.
 Degree being a certified documentation of the individual’s skill.
 Not everyone with the skill will be able to obtain the degree.
 Not everyone with a degree is qualified.
Degree

 A term used by colleges and universities to describe the completion of a course of study or
the level of academic success.
Skill

 A skill is the practically learned ability to perform an action with predictable outcomes and
good execution, often in a limited amount of time, energy, or both.
Why do I prefer skill over degree?

 A degree can only get you a job; it won't help you advance if you don't have the necessary
skills. It is skill that attracts employers, clients, and management, and it is skill that
elevates or degrades a person. Without the ability, the person would be unable to catch the
attention of their superiors and achieve success.
Bill Gates (Co-founder of Microsoft)

Bill Gates is perhaps one

of the most famous
entrepreneurs without a
college degree. He started
Harvard University in
1973, but dropped out two
years later to start
Microsoft.
Michael Dell (CEO of Dell Technologies)

He was a student at the

University of Texas at
Austin only during his
first year, when he
decided to drop out to
run PC's Limited,
which later changed its
name to the well-
known brand Dell, a
company that became
the number one seller
of PC’s in the world.
“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.”
