SALAWIKAIN
Damiana L. Eugenio
the mother of Philippine Folklore according to
the University of the Philippines Folklorists, Inc.
and the U.P. Folklore Studies Program (1986),
compiled and edited the most comprehensive
collection of Filipino proverbs.
Through the various proverbs from
the different parts of the Philippines,
Damiana L. Eugenio
attested that these salawikain
reveals the wisdom and values of our
forefathers
Proverbs are unwritten knowledge
passed down from generation to
generation and typically contain
advice from our ancestors.

These pieces of advice are
considered as words of wisdom
which are already time-tested
through experiences
and situations.
