What is a Resume 

• The term resume comes from the French and means a "summary." 

• A summary of your qualifications, skills, and achievements.

• It shows a future employer what you have done in the past.


What does a Resume do?
• A Resume details our

• skills and training, work experience, and education, and

• the accomplishments you have made with past employers.

• It should inform the employer of your career objective

CV and Resume

• A resume is a one page summary of your work experience and


background relevant to the job you are applying to.
• A resume should only include those details about your work
experience and skills that are relevant to the job 

• A CV is a longer academic diary that includes all your


experience, certificates, and publications.
• a CV should detail the whole course of your career.
Difference Between
CV and Resume

• A resume is a brief summary of your skills and experience over one or


two pages, a CV is more detailed and can stretch well beyond two pages.

• The resume will be tailored to each position whereas the CV will stay
put and any changes will be in the cover letter.

• CV is intended to be a full record of your career history and a resume is


a brief, targeted list of skills and achievements.

career in full detail.

• A Curriculum Vitae contains details about your education, professional
career, publications, awards, honors, and other achievements.

• In the USA and Canada, a CV is used only for academic applications:


academic jobs, grants, research fellowships, etc.

document used for job applications in the US and Canada. The purpose of
a resume is to provide recruiters with a brief overview of the candidate’s
work history. A good resume should be targeted at a specific job and one
to two pages long.
