SANDWICHES
Sandwiches
• A sandwiches refers to two
pieces of bread and a filling of
meat, vegetables, cheese, or
spread. It can also be any type
of roll or bread and any type of
food that can be conveniently
eaten, hot or cold.
Tools, Equipment, and Utensils needed in
Preparing Sandwiches
• Sandwich spatula- a
small, flat round bladed
spatula which is used to
apply spread over bread
slices.
Kitchen Shears
a tool used to cut edges of
bread for tea sandwiches,
hors d’ oeuvres and
children’s sandwiches. It is
also used to cut bread in
different sizes and shapes
Cookie Cutters
Cookie Cutters- a tool
perfect for cutting
breads into tiny pieces
with different shapes.
Grater and
shredder
Grater and shredder-
used for grating
meat, cheese and
other ingredients for
sandwich.
Spatula
A long flexible blade with a
rounded end used to level off
ingredients when measuring
using measuring cup and
measuring spoon. It is also used
to spread fillings on
sandwiches.
Butter knife
a small knife with a
blunt edged blade used
for applying spreads like
butter, peanut butter,
mayonnaise and cream
cheese on bread.
Chef
knife
  A cutting tool for mincing,
slicing, and chopping
vegetables, slicing meat, and
disjointing large cuts. It
comes in various lengths of 6,
8, 10 and 12 inches.
Deli knife
a knife designed for cutting
thick sandwiches. It has an
offset blade for easy slicing and
handling
Lettuce knife
a plastic knife with
serrated blade
designed to slice
lettuce without causing
the edges to turn
brown.
MIXING

mixing the ingredients .
Paring Knife
a small knife with a
straight, sharp blade that is
generally three to five
inches long used for
peeling, mincing and
cutting small ingredients.
Tray
 

  to gather the
ingredients together.
It is also used for
serving sandwiches.
Wooden Spoon
Wooden spoon- it is
used for mixing the
ingredients.
Rubber Scraper
used for scraping
sticky ingredients
from the side of the
bowl.
Chopping Board
Chopping Board- a
cutting board for
slicing bread and
vegetables.
Measuring Spoon
Measuring spoon-
used to measure the
ingredients in small
quantity.
Dry Measuring
Cup
used to measure
the dry
ingredients in
large quantity.
Sandwich Knife
 
a sharp bladed knife used to slice
through a medium amount of food
ingredients “sandwiched” between two
slices of bread.
It is shorter in length with a
shorter blade depth in order to
easily cut through a small to
medium sized sandwiches.
Grills/
Griddles
these are flat
heated surfaces
where food is
directly cooked.
Oven
an enclosed
chamber in
which food are
heated by hot air.
Microwave

primarily for
browning or toasting
sandwiches.
Bread toaster
Bread toaster- a
small electric kitchen
equipment used to
toast bread.
Steps in Cleaning the Tools used in
Sandwich Preparation
1. Prepare the cleaning agents. e.g. dishwashing liquid, water and
scouring pad.
2. Remove the leftover food particles from the container.
3. Pre-rinse the tools.
4. Wash them with dishwashing liquid and scouring pad.
5. Rinse them with water.
6. Dry the tools and return to their storage area.
Sandwich Chiller
Sandwich Chiller-
machine used to
chill sandwiches
and other foods.
