What is Word ?

Word is The smallest segment of speech sound that can be used alone.

Word is meaningful unit of grammar which is composed of one or more Morpheme.

There are three types of Word.

Simple Word Complex Word

Coumpound Word

Simple words consist of a single free morpheme, It is also known as "monomorphemic“


is composed of only one lexical structure. Example:

Complex words contain, as the immediate constituent either two bound forms or abound and free forms.
Example:

Compound Words in linguistics, the process of combining two words (free morphemes)
to create a new word, and also written as one word. Example:
What is Morpheme ?

Morpheme is the smallest meaningful constituents of words that can be identified".

morpheme is the smallest unit of meaning and/or grammatical function

There Are Two types of morpheme.

Types Of Morpheme ?

Free morpheme is one morpheme that can be uttered with meaning


free morpheme can stand alone as independent word.

Example: What are you going to do now ?

bound morpheme cannot stand alone, but must be attached to another morpheme.
bound morphemes as "are those morphemes that cannot stand alone, but needed the support of other morphemes".
