INTRODUCTION
Human augmentation refers to the use of technology to
enhance human capabilities.
The concept of human augmentation has been around
for centuries, but recent advancements in technology
have made it possible to achieve greater levels of
augmentation than ever before. In this presentation, we
will explore the various types of human augmentation,
the technology used in it, the benefits and drawbacks of
human augmentation, and its potential impact on
society.
DEFINITION
Human augmentation is the use of technology, biology, or other means to enhance the physical or cognitive
capabilities of humans beyond their natural abilities. It aims to improve human performance, productivity, and
quality of life by overcoming physical or mental limitations.
This can include everything from prosthetics and implants to genetic engineering and brain-computer
interfaces

DIFFERENT TYPES
• Physical augmentation
• Cognitive augmentation
• Sensory augmentation
• Social augmentation
Technology Used in Human
Augmentation
Prosthetics:
Artificial limbs and other prosthetic devices are used to replace or enhance lost or
damaged body parts, enabling individuals to perform tasks they couldn't otherwise do.

Exoskeletons:
These wearable robotic devices are designed to augment human strength and
endurance, providing additional support and power to perform physically demanding
tasks.
ExMilitary,Aerospace,Healthcare

Brain-computer interfaces
These devices enable direct communication between the brain and an external device,
allowing individuals to control machines or communicate without the need for physical
movements.
Biomedical implants
These devices are used to enhance or replace the function of organs or body systems,
such as pacemakers or cochlear implants.
ex; pacemaker,cochlear implants.Bionic eye

Cognitive enhancers:
These substances or devices are used to improve cognitive function, such as memory
or attention, by altering brain chemistry or activity.

Gene therapy
This involves modifying the genetic makeup of an individual to enhance physical or
cognitive abilities.
Ex:Zolgensma,Leber's congenital amaurosis (LCA)

Virtual and augmented reality

These technologies enable individuals to interact with virtual objects or environments,
providing opportunities for training, education, and entertainment.
The Ethics of Human Augmentation
As with any emerging technology, there are ethical concerns surrounding human augmentation.
• new form of inequality,

• potential long-term health effects

• Helping people with disabilities,

• ex: prosthetics

• The use of human augmentation

technologies may raise criminal law issues,

Future of Human Augmentation
• Timekettle is on a mission to allow anyone to become a polyglot and communicate with people
in any language.
• Bioprinting company TissueLabs is attempting to create bioartificial organs.
• Elon Musk is already attempting to build neural interfaces at Neuralink.
ex: monkey playing pingpong.
• Space exploration:
• A Synthetic chip will be able to connect with brain neurons and store more information with
enhanced capability.
Impact of Human Augmentation on Society

• Increased Productivity

• Improved Healthcare

• Increased Inequality

• Ethical Concerns

• New Jobs and Industries

CONCLUSIO
N
Human augmentation is a rapidly advancing field with enormous potential to improve human

lives. While there are certainly challenges and ethical concerns that must be addressed, the

benefits of human augmentation cannot be ignored. As technology continues to advance, we can

expect to see even more innovative and effective forms of human augmentation emerge.
