LESSON
FOR THE
DAY
WHAT IS
PERSONAL
PRONOUNS?
Personal pronouns is a short word we
use as a simple substitute for the proper
name of a person. Each of the English
personal pronouns shows us the
grammatical person, gender, number,
and case of the noun it replaces.
Examples of Personal
Pronouns
PLURAL - Paul and Jane were new to the area, but they already felt at home.
(There are two subjects, "Paul and Jane," so the plural pronoun "they" is needed
here. As Paul and Jane are the subjects of the sentence, "they" is the correct choice
rather than "them.")
ACTIVITY Please UNDERLINE the PRONOUNS
given and identify if its SINGULAR or
2 PLURAL PROUNOUS.
_____1. Mom and dad went shopping. They bought a new dining set.
_____2. The farmer brought the cows around. Later, he fixed the fence

• Split the class into two teams: the A Team and the B Team.
• Have students make small signs. The A Team’s sign should say “SP" and the other
team’s sign should say “PS.”
• Assign one student to be the scorekeeper at the whiteboard.
• Read a fairy tale, such as “Cinderella” or “The Frog Prince,” to your class.
• As you read, have students hold up the “PS” side when they hear you read
“singular pronoun,” and “PS” when you read the word “plural pronoun.” The
scorekeeper makes a tally mark each time.
• Calculate the points for each team. Which one had the most points?
