ASEAN POLICE MODELS

The Philippines is one of the founding members of the

Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ).
Likewise, it has active diplomatic relations with these
neighboring countries. This countries in the ASEAN region
are best by transnational organized crimes. Thus,
promotion of regional cooperation among their police
forces is a necessary. This lesson presents the basic
features of police system among ASEAN member – states.

IS SUPREME.

• CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY IS A FORM OF MONARCHY WHERE

THE MONARCH EXERCISES AUTHORITY ACCORDING WITH THE
CONSTITUTION.

• ISLAMIC STATE IS ACCORDING TO FAITH WHERE THEY ARE

BELIEVED TO BE LAID DOWN WITH THE QUR’AN AND SUNNAH OF
THE HOLY PHROPET. WHERE ALLAH IS OMNIPONENT AND
OMNIPRESENT BEING THE UNIVERSE.

SYSTEM IN BRUNEI
• The criminal Justice System of Brunei
Darussalam is based on the English common
law system. It seeks to balance the needs of
the state to enforce effectively its criminal
laws, with the rights of the person to a due
and fair process in conformity with the
constitutional provisions.

• Common law is the body of unwritten laws

based on legal precedents established by
the courts.

There are two parallel systems of law operating
in Brunei Darussalam:

• Statutory laws – SUPREME COURT

• Syariah law – SHARIA COURT

Royal Brunei
Police (RBP)
ROYAL BRUNEI POLICE (RBP)
● founded in 1906

● one of the oldest institutions in the country.

● officially established in 1921 and was

renamed Royal Brunei Police in 1965.

● Since independence in 1984, the RBP has

been headed by the Monarch, who is the
General Inspector of Police.

 Directly subordinate to the Monarch is the Commissioner of Police, who

manages the RPB headquarters assisted by a Deputy Commissioner of
Police and Secretariat. The office includes five ( 5 ) main departments :
Administration and Finance, Operations, Criminal Investigation and
Intelligence, Logistics, and Traffic Control. Directly subordinate to the
Commissioner are Commanders of six ( 6 ) Regional Police Districts.

 BRP’s Official Mission is “To maintain law and order in accordance with
powers conferred by any written law of the land in most professional
manner.”
QUALIFICATION IN ROYAL BRUNEI POLICE

Entrance age in BRP is 18 years old and

1 AGE retirement age is 60 years old.

The minimum physical requirements is not

2 HEIGHT less than 5’6” in height for male and not less
than 5’4” for female.

male should weigh not exceeding 60 kg and

3 WEIGHT for the female not exceeding 55 kg.

Academic should be at least Brunei Junior Certificates

4 requirement of Education ( BJCE ).
 9 months TRAINING PERIOD
- involves study of Brunei law, physical
fitness and arms and feet drills.

PROBATION
with

12 – 16 weeks
of REFRESHER COURSE thereafter.

In 2017, new uniform designs of RBP were
introduced to replace the grey khaki
uniform, with two total uniforms with their
own purpose.

 Also known as a duty uniform, this
uniform quickly replaced the grey
khaki uniform. It was first used during
96th Brunei Police Anniversary
parade, and was widely used for the
first time during 33rd Brunei National
Day. The uniform designs are:
