9500 MPR - Microwave Packet Radio

1) What is a Microwave Packet Radio ?

A Microwave Packet Radio translates all the traffic into packets

achieving an homogeneous and common transmission layer based on
Ethernet.

Having all in packets, traffic can be optimised and aggregated

irrespective of its source technology and transported over a unified
Ethernet infrastructure.

Transmission of legacy interfaces (E1) is unaffected preserving the

current quality.
9500 MPR - Microwave Packet Radio

2) What are the benefits ?

The 9500 MPR has been conceived to address 3G/4Gmobile backhauling.

Through this technology Mobile Operators can add 3G/4G services on top
of 2G reducing at minimum terms CAPEX and OPEX impact on
backhauling infrastructure.

Compared to traditional TDM solutions, the 9500MPR provides tangible

benefits and savings when deploying 3G services.

Benefits of Adaptive Modulation

Smaller Antenna because dimensioned for 4QAM link budget

Higher Capacity because the link will run at maximum modulation for 99% of the time
No impact in quality because modulation switching is hitless

Conclusions
9500 MPR - Microwave Packet Radio

Conclusions

Deployment of 3G services challenges Transmission Network capability

from backhaul to the core.

Cost model of TDM technology in backhaul is not suitable to cope with

revenue stream generated by 3G services

Microwave Packet Radio offer to Mobile Operators an affordable cost

modelling enabling profitable deployment of 3G services.
