1.Introduction

• This system is a very innovative system which will help to keep the cities clean
• An android app is built to show the status to the user monitoring it. The app gives a gauge and a level
view of the garbage bins and highlights the garbage collected in color in order to show the level of garbage
collected.
• The LCD screen shows the status of the garbage level.
• The system uses ultrasonic sensors placed over the bins to detect the garbage level and compare it with
the garbage bins depth.
Objective
The Internet of Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate transparently and seamlessly a large number of different
and heterogeneous end systems, while providing open access to selected subsets of data for the development of
a plethora of digital services. Building a general architecture for the IoT is hence a very complex task, mainly
because of the extremely large variety of devices, link layer technologies, and services that may be involved in
such a system. One of the main concerns with our environment has been solid waste management which in
addition to disturbing the balance of the environment also has adverse effects on the health of the society. The
detection, monitoring and management of wastes is one of the primary problems of the present era. The
traditional way of manually monitoring the wastes in waste bins is a complex, cumbersome process and utilizes
more human effort, time and cost which is not compatible with the present day technologies in any way. This an
advanced method in which waste management is automated. This project IoT Garbage Monitoring system is a
very innovative system which will help to keep the cities clean. This system monitors the garbage bins and
informs about the level of garbage collected in the garbage bins via an android app. This app also send all
information to garbage collection vehicles.
What is IoT?
The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital
machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to
transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.
A thing in the internet of things can be a person with a heart monitor implant, a farm animal with a biochip
transponder, an automobile that has built-in sensors to alert the driver when tire pressure is low or any
other natural or man-made object that can be assigned an Internet Protocol (IP) address and is able to
transfer data over a network.

Hardware Connection Procedure 1st part

Hardware connection is same as like as the circuit diagram.1 st we program the nodemcu and then we connect the
5V power supply to the nodemcu and then we connect 3 Ultrasonic sensors with nodemcu. 1 st Ultrasonic’s trigger
and echo pin is connected to D0 and D3, 2 nd Ultrasonic’s trigger and echo pin is connected to D4 and D5 and 3 rd
Ultrasonic’s trigger and echo pin is connected to D6 and D7 of nodemcu. And all af the GND and VCC are
connected to battery’s GND and VCC in parallel. At last we connected a 16*2 i2c LCD display. Which SDA and
SCL connected to nodemcu’s D1 and D2 pins.

Advantages

1. Dynamic routing The solution optimizes waste collection routes and schedules based on real-time and
historical data, provides predictive analytics to enable decision making ahead of time, and offers
consultation on waste bin allocations. Cost reduction Our smart waste logistics solution reduces waste
collection frequency dramatically, which enables you to save on fuel, labor, and fleet maintenance costs.

2. Improved cleanliness In densely populated areas, a rapid waste generation often leads to overflowing
waste bins and unsightly streets. Our solution enables waste collection staff to read fill- levels in real time
and receive notifications of waste overflows. CO2 reduction Collecting garbage is a very pollutant heavy
proposition. Our solution offers you the means to have less trucks on the road for less time, which means
less greenhouse gas emissions, less noise pollution, and less road wear.

3. Monitors the garbage bins and informs about the level of garbage collected in the garbage bins. To
keep our Environment clean & green. The cost & effort are less in this system.

Limitations

1. It can be stolen.
2. As it is an electronic device so water can be destroy it.(Unless we don’t make it water and dust proof)
3. Internet connection’s problem and data speed problem.
4. Sensor’s accuracy.
Future work

The above method is just a stepping stone for implantation of IOT. There can be many enhancements done for
this prototype which can be a revolutionary change in maintaining our environment clean and healthy. The few
enhancements can be done are: The implementation of more collective bins placed side by side where it
automatically detects the type and waste and places in the correct bin color which is assigned for that type.
These dustbins can be placed with a GPS tracker where the dustbins in a particular locality can be located
easily and the waste can be emptied. This method can lead to Smart Waste Monitoring System.
Conclusion

IOT based Dustbins help the people to manage the waste easily and help them reduce the work of calling or
waiting for the specific person to make the area clean and makes a healthier environment to live. They won’t
be any kind of diseases and the people will be fit and are not prone to diseases caused by these waste
materials. The mission Clean BD can also be implemented easily. This system assures the cleaning of
dustbins soon when the garbage level reaches its maximum. It will take power supply with the help of Battery.
If the dustbin is not cleaned in specific time, then the record is sent to the Sweeper or higher authority who
can take appropriate action against the concerned contractor. It ultimately helps in keeping the surrounding
clean and the waste management can be much easier.
