BARTIMAEUS’ STORY; OUR STORY.
There is always a solution to every problem no matter how difficult life may seem. Faith
in God never fails. The story of the blind man Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52 shows hos
Jesus made all the difference in the life of Bartemaeus, a physically blind man, yet with
a clear sight of faith.

“ They came to Jericho. Ans as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a
sizable crowd, Bartemaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the
roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry
out and say, “Jesus son of David, have pity on me”. And many rebuked him,
telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more,
“Son of David, have pity on me”. Jesus stopped and said, “call him”. So they
called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage; get up, he is calling you.”
He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
Jesus said to him in reply. “What do you want me to do for you?” . The blond
man replied to him, “Master, I want to see,” Jesus told him, “Go your way;
your faith has saved you”. Immediately he received his sight and followed him
on the way.”
If you were in
the situation,
how are you
going to react?
How are you
going to live out
the message
and challenges
of the story?
• The story of Bartimaeus is not far away from ours. We, too,
are blind in many ways. The blindness is not a physical
sense but more in the spiritual sense.

• It is not in a PHYSICAL SENSE but more in SPIRITUAL

SENSE. ( some are blinded by materialism,
consumerisms, addictions, vices, obsession with
power and honor and craving for love and attention
in unhealthy ways).
• This blindness may come from unhealed
woundedness deep within our hearts as
experienced in our own family, school, community
and the society at large.

• MAY WE CALL JESUS FOR HELP TO SEE

WHAT TRULY MATTERS IN THIS LIFE,
“MASTER, I WANT TO SEE”
• In life we have the POWER OF CHOICE, no matter how
great impact of a certain experience is in our life, We need
God’s intervention to CHANGE US and our INNER
ATTITUDES toward ourselves and others despite our various
experiences and personalities. Otherwise, we would just be
treading ‘our way’ instead of following the will of God.
God calls us to live according to His words. Jesus calls
us to share our life with Him. He reminded us that apart
from Him, we are nothing for he is our origin, our life-
giver.

In the midst of our suffering, it is God who comes to our

rescue. God never leaves us nor abandons us. He is
always beside us as He is faithful to His promise. “I am
with you always, until the end of age3”.
• “what do you want me to do for you?” –
JESUS provides our needs.
• He heals truly those who believe in Him. If
you remain in Him and in His words, ask
for whatever you want and it will be done
for you.
• In the midst of our
suffering. It is God who
comes to our rescue.
• GOD NEVER LEAVES
US NOR ABANDONS
US. He is always besides
us as He is faithful to His
promise.
• We only need to be aware
of His presence in our
lives whatever we may be
going through.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His
HEALING
• Experiences allow us to witness people who
were once blind, unwell and depressed in life.
• DAMASCUS, became blind for three days.
After gaining his sight, he was baptized and
became a very zealous missionary of Christ
in many places.
This is a GRACE. No matter how admirable were the things we
do for other people, the merit is not ours. We must always
recognize that it is the work of God in us. In Jesus’ healing,
Jesus at the end always says, “YOUR FAITH HAS SAVED
YOU” . The faith that Jesus highly praised is not the self-
righteous, legalistic faith of the Scribes and the Pharisees. It
was rather the open acceptance of God’s free gift of loving and
healing presence among them in Christ. The faith that Jesus
refers to “saves” because it shares in the very power of God,
active within our daily lives (CFC 486). It is a gift of God
Himself, nurtured by our creative and solid effort through His
indwelling power in us.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His healing

The apostle Paul is a

concrete example of this,
he was once a cruel
persecutor of Christians,
who, after meeting the
Risen Christ became a very
zealous missionary of
Christ in many places.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His
Teachings

He proclaimed the kingdom of God through

teachings and healing and ultimately
through His sufferings, death and
resurrection, ascension and Pentecost which
we referred to us the Paschal Mystery.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His
Teachings

Jesus is the messenger of Good News of our

Salvation, the kingdom of God which means
the reign of Love, Justice, Peace and all that
is good.

Jesus is the new

Moses who did not
abolish the laws in
the old testament but
purified and fulfilled
them.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His
Teachings

Jesus teaches not to settle with the least that we

can do as His brother or sister, and as a brother
or sister to one another. HE CALLS US TO GIVE
THE BEST THAT WE CAN IN EVERY
SITUATION TO PLEASE THE FATHER FOR
HE SAID “BE PERFECT, JUST AS YOUR
FATHER IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through His
Teachings
NOW, with our parents, guardians or teachers we
experience the pressure of giving the best that we can,Not
only for the good or the better, but the BEST. Sometimes
we resist the pressure and the task that they are
demanding from us, and even worse, label them as
“Perfectionist” or “Terror”, but if we critically yet openly
and humbly obey their wishes for us, surely we can
benefit in more ways that we can imagine.
It is the same with God. If he allows
us to experience pressures,
challenges, and trials, it is because
He has good reasons, which may be
hard for us to comprehend
instantly, but they will eventually
bring out the best in us.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through ULTIMATE
ACT OF LOVE
MORE then being the messenger of good news
God himself is the Good News, He is the “IMAGE
OF THE INVISIBLE GOD”
The perfect man who has restored in the children
of Adam the likeness to God which had been
disfigured ever since the first sin.
He, the Son of God, has in certain way united
Himself with each person.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through Ultimate
act of Love
Jesus had to become like His brothers and
sisters in every way that He might expiate
the sins of His people. (Hebrew 2:17)
Jesus proclaimed the Good news through
His PUBLIC MINISTRY and suffered from
rejection and false accusation.
Jesus: the way to God’s
Kingdom through Ultimate
act of Love
He was crucified mercilessly
and died on the cross. All these
accepted in perfect obedience to
the will of the Father show us
how unconditionally we are
loved despite our sinfulness.
