AGARICUS

Presented by
Mahda
BS botany 1st semester
Taxonomic position
kingdom: Fungi
Class :Holobasidiomycetidae
Order:Agaricales
Family:Agariceae
Genus: Agaricus
Species:A.compestrus
Habitat
They are typically live in
open,well manured,and often
grassy areas
Plant body
The plant body of the fungus can be divided
into two parts
Vegetative mycelium
Basidiocarp
Vegetative mycelium
The mycelim may be
Primary mycelium
Secondary mycelium
Tertiary mycelium
Primary mycelium
It is monokaryotic, short lived and develops
from germination of basidiospore.
The cells are short.
Secondary mycelium
The secondary mycelium is dikaryotic and
arise by dikaryotization through somatogamy
of two compatible hyphae..
Tertiary mycelium:
The mycelium producing basidiocarps
or mushrooms is sometimes referred to
as tertiary mycelium.
Reproduction:
The fungus reproduce sexually usually.
The definite sex organs are absent.
The plasmogamy is brought about by
fusion of two compatible somatic
hyphae.
Basidiocarp
The aerial part of fungus is the fruiting body
of the fungus properly known as mushrooms.
Structure of basidiocarp
A mushroom is umbrella shaped
generally.
the upper portion is called pileus or cap is
circular expanded.
Development of basidiocarp
The development of the basidiocarp
starts as tiny swelling
This swelling into large ovoid structure
The portion of primordium above the
prelamellar cavity finally develops into
pileus that below in stipe.
Structure of lamella
Each lamella consists of three tissues.
Hymenium:
Fertile region of lameela
club shaped
binucleate cells
Trama
Multinucleate elongate cells which extends
from the hyphae of the pileus.
Sub hymenium
In between the hymenium and trama is a
region composed of hyphae arranged at
right angles to those of tranma.
Development of Basidium
& Basidiospores

• A fertile cell of hymenial layer act as a

basidial initial, increase in size to
become a basidium.
• Peg-like outgrowth sterigmata are
produced.
Development of Basidium
& Basidiospores

• Small lateral outgrowth is called hilum that is

developed at the junction of basidiospore.
• Small drop of liquid appears on the hilum. This
drop increase in size when it reaches about 1/5th
the size of the spore.
