GRASPS Elements of the Performance Task
The goal is to deepen students' understanding of the different parts of a plant, how they
function, and their role in the plant's overall growth and development.

The students will be adopting the roles of presenter, gardener, scientist,

mathematician.

The audience will be the teacher, fellow students and biotechnologists/gardeners/social

workers.

Students will be provided with different challenges throughout the course of three months:
They will be provided with seeds to grow a plant by themselves.
They will be asked to construct a plant with different art material.
They will be asked to explore the parts of a plant with a microscope and record their findings.
They will be given a part of a plant to express how that part would feel and how it would want a
human being to take care of it.
They will be given different fruits and vegetables to make a salad.
They will be given a ruler and a calendar to measure the height and the growth of different
plants.

Entry Event
The organizers of ‘Horticulture Society of Pakistan” invite
schools to exhibit their spring plantation.

They give a letter of invitation to Kindergarten students.

Driving question
How can we make geometric jewellery from material like paper, ceramic, crochet ,
ribbon flower, beads ,acrylic sheets etc?

How appropriate size , shapes, patterns and exact measurement create a unique
brand of jewellery?
Broad Learning Areas (as mentioned in UBD)
Language: vocabulary words, speaking, tableau presentation to show parts of the
plant
Mathematics: Application of measurements, Introducing concept of
temperature, big small, shapes
Art: plants printing, DIY plant pots, drawing different stages of plant growth, what
parts of plants do we eat?
Music Competencies: poems and songs related to parts of plant and their
conservation
Technological competencies: usage of blender for making fruit smoothies.
Engineering competencies: comparison of genetically engineered seed plant vs.
normal seed’s plant growth, DIY plant pots
Model/ Approach/Process adopted
We have explored the following approaches
• Design Thinking

• Engineering process
Engage
● Introduce the essential questions about what is going on at the personal level and then
expanding to an ultimate global level.
Reflective questions
Empathise
● Journey will start with the designing of jewelry for their friend. Pairs will be made for this.
They will understand the liking and emotions.
Reflective questions
Ideate
● They will experience a series of different types of handmade jewelry designing.
● They have to read and listen to the different information and then draw their own
conclusions.
Reflective questions
Prototype
● Research for materials, tools and techniques and steps of formation of jewellery.
● Implement the content knowledge of Mathematics, geometry, shapes and sizes, intersecting
lines and shapes, patterns, measurements, art, English ,Di and computers.
Reflective questions
Modify
● Modify the friendship band using creativity, concept and combination of techniques.
Reflective questions
● Reflect on your work and progress with feedback, checklist, criteria
for rubrics on different stages.
Testing
● Estimate the cost of their all products for display.
● Compiling all the information and the outline of their journey into a proper presentation for the audience and
for participating in the competition.

● Present the final product to friend, jewellery designer,It experts, jewellers , consumers and J.A Design
competition organisers and judgement committee.
● Final fruit of the project is the certificate and title of the young Jewellery designer, which will recognise them
in future as young designers in the jewellery industry.
● Their critical thinking and creativity skill , communication and collaboration skills, time management skills and
judgement skills will be developed in this project.
