Getting Started with

MS Excel
Common Ways Of Starting MS Excel Spreadsheet
Program
Option A
1. Click the Start Button.
2. Point to All Programs.
3. Point to Microsoft Office 2016.
4. Click on Excel 2016.

Option B
5. Check on the Microsoft Office task bar.
6. Click on the shortcut icon of Excel.
Option C
1. Look for the shortcut icon on the desktop.
2. Click on the icon of Excel.

Option D
3. Click on the Search icon in the taskbar.
4. Type Excel on the search box.
5. Press Enter

Option E
6. Clink on the Start button.
7. Look for Excel on the alphabetical list of available software.
8. Click on Excel.
Saving the Worksheet

MS Excel provides many ways to save a file. It is important to know how


each function individually. New, edited and opened file may be saved for
future use or for a succeeding action such as printing and modifying.

1.Click on the File tab and on the menu, click the Save or Save As.
2.On the Save As window, select This PC, click on the drive or location
where you want to save and the Save As dialog box will appear.
3.Click on the file namebox, type your file name and click Save.
4.Or, on the Quick Access Toolbar, the Save button and follow the rest of the
instructions.
5.Or, you may also use the shortcut key Ctrl+S then follow the ret of the
instructions.
Exiting MS Excel

1. Clickthe File tab, and then select Close.


2. Simply click the close X button at the upper left corner of the
screen and the screen will return to the Windows desktop.

Opening a Previously Save Worksheet

3. Click on the File tab and on the menu, click Open.


4. On the Open window, select This PC, click on the drive or
location where you saved and the Open dialog box will appear.
5. Click on the file name you used, and click Open.
6. Or, on the Quick Access Toolbar, click the Open button and
follow the rest of the instructions.

follow the rest of the instructions.
6. Or, click on the File tab and click from the list of recently
opened files.

Moving Around a Worksheet

An Excel worksheet is extremely large. To be able to


easily find data on a large worksheet, the user needs to
know how to get around. The user can navigate the
worksheet using the mouse or keyboard.
Excel provides several keyboard shortcuts that be
helpul in navigating the worksheet.

Right Arrow Key or Tab One cell to the right

Left Arrow Key One cell to the left

Up Arrow Key Up one row

Down Arrow Key Down one row

Home and End Keys Jumps to the cell in column A

Page Up Key Up one screen

Ctrl+ or Ctrl + G To the first cell (A1) in the worksheet


F5 or Ctrl + G To go to specific cell address
Type on Name Box To go to specific cell address

Ctrl + Arrow Key Move to next section of text

Ctrl + Tab Move between two or more open Excel


files
Ctrl + - Delete a selected row or column

Ctrl + Shift + = Insert a new column or now

Ctrl + Space Select entire column

Shift + Space Select entire row

Ctrl + Page Up Move between worksheets in the same


workbook
Ctrl + Page Down Move between worksheets in the same
document
Ctrl + F9 Minimize the current window
Ctrl + F10 Maximize the current window
The Ribbon

The ribbon is the panel at the top portion of


the workbook. It has seven tabs and these tabs
contain commands and tools which are
grouped according to their function. Additional
tabs will show when you are working on
pictures, cliparts, wordart text boxes and
shapes.
