Characteristics
The Grasshopper is more selfish than the
ant. The Ant refuses to help others,
however, the Grasshopper is more
compassionate. The Grasshopper is more
focused on enjoying the present, while the
Ant prepares for the future.

Introduction
• The fable describes how a hungry
grasshopper begs for food from an ant
when winter comes and is refused. The
situation sums up moral lesson about
the virtues of hard work and planning
for the future. The grasshopper begs at
the ant’s door.
Rising Action
• The rising action was the
grasshopper telling the ant to
stop working and chat with him
instead of working and collecting
food and items for the long
winter.
Climax
• The grasshopper realizes
that he’s not having fun
anymore, so he should
change some of his choices.
Falling Action
• The falling action of the fable was
when he went to the house of the
ants, hoping to ask for a food. But
the ant refused, because the
grasshopper did no work. The
grasshopper left and nowhere to go.
Resolution
• The resolution of the fable
was when the grasshopper
learned his lesson and
started working with the
ants in collecting food.
Setting
• The setting is nothing but it
takes place on a forest floor
on a summer day with great
weather.
Symbolism
• The ant and grasshopper full story
teaches us that one must make the best
use of the present situation, instead of
suffering later.

• The time that grasshopper
realizes he is careless, it is too
late because winter has arrived
and he could die of starvation.

• The moral lesson of the story is
all about being prepared. If we
work hard and plan for the
future, we won’t find ourselves
in the grasshoppers position,
relying on others.
