Clinical significance of the first heart sound
• 1- onset of ventricular systole.
• 2- clear sound indicates healthy (AV) valves. (no stenosis or regurgitation).
• 3- sharp loud sound indicates hypertrophied heart and weak sound
indicates weak myocardium (myocarditis).

Clinical significance of the second heart sound
• 1- onset of ventricular diastole and end of systole.
• 2- clear sound indicates healthy semilunar valves. (aortic & pulmonary valves).
• 3- its pitch is related to degree of blood pressure.
