WHAT IS BIAS?

is the tendency to show favorable or

unfavorable preference to an object,
event, or person. It is a lack of
objectivity when looking at something.
The bias can be both intentional and
unintentional.
For example, a person may like one shirt
more than two others when given a choice
because the shirt they picked is also their
favorite color. The person may not realize
why they picked the shirt; it is simply an
unconscious bias towards that color.
However, when a person is biased, they will

knowingly choose for or against an object because of

internal preferences or thoughts. Fans of sports teams

stating their hometown teams are best is an example.

Regardless, whether the team is winning or not, a fan

will often be biased toward a favorable view of their

Ø Anchoring Bias - this happens when people rely too much
on pre-existing information or the first information they find
when making decisions.
-when we become “anchored” to a specific idea, we end up
“filtering” all new information

error; it is a type of cognitive bias whereby our
perception of someone is positively influenced
by our opinions of that person’s other related
traits. The halo effect is something referred to as
the “physical attractiveness stereotype” and the
“what is beautiful is also good” principle.
