GREATER ONE BIGGER- A HORNED

RHINO WEIGHS 2 TONS

HORNED RHINO 200 KILOGRAMS.

THEY LIVE AN AVERAGE
OF 35-45 YEARS IN
NATURE.
The larger one-horned rhinoceros is identified by a single black horn
about 8-25 inches long and a gray-brown skin with folds of skin that give
it an armor-plated appearance. The species is solitary except when adult
males or rhinos approaching adulthood gather to roll or graze.
→The Indian rhinoceros ( Rhinoceros unicornis ) or Indian rhinoceros for short , also known as the greater one-horned rhinoceros or
greater Indian rhinoceros, is a species of rhinoceros endemic to the Indian subcontinent. Because the populations are fragmentary
and confined to an area of less than 20,000 km2 (7,700 sq mi), it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. In addition, the extent
and quality of the alluvial Terai-Duar plain and grasslands, the most important habitat of the rhino, as well as the riverine forest, are
thought to be in decline due to human and animal encroachment. As of August 2018, the global population is estimated to consist of
3,588 people, of which 2,939 are in India and 649 are in Nepal. [1] Kaziranga National Park alone had an estimated population of 2,048
rhinos in 2009. [2] The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam has the highest density of Indian rhinos in the world with 84 individuals
in an area of 38.80 km2 (14.98 square miles). in 2009. [3]

→ Indian rhinos were once spread throughout the entire Indo-Gangetic Plain, but overfishing and agricultural development have
largely reduced their range to 11 regions in northern India and southern Nepal. In the early 1990s, it was estimated that between
1,870 and 1,895 Indian rhinos were alive. [4] Since then, the numbers have increased due to the protection measures taken by
the government. However, poaching remains a constant threat, as more than 150 Indian rhinos were killed by poachers in Assam
between 2000 and 2006 Dec.

→ About 85% of the global Indian rhino population is concentrated in Assam, where Kaziranga National Park contains 70% of the
rhino population.
