Paintball – A
fantastic sport
By Verónica Palacios
Is a sport in which
participants use air pistols
called markers to shoot
small paintballs at other
players
IN ESSENCE IT IS A GAME OF PERSECUTION, SINCE
PLAYERS TOUCHED BY PAINT BALLS DURING THE
GAME ARE ELIMINATED
2
Normally in a game two teams face each other in order to eliminate all the players from the opposing team or
each the goal (such as capturing the flag or eliminating a specific player). A typical non-professional paintball
game usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes. The basic equipment needed to practice paintball is not
excessively expensive (although the markers and other high-end can be). The number of paint balls are the
same for each person within the group, determined this amount before starting the activity, being able to choos
within the rates 100 or 200 balls. With the second option you usually play for about 2 and a half hours, with
he option of acquiring more during the game in case of running out.
ORIGIN OF PAINTBALL
• Paintball is a sport discovered in the 70s/80s in the
United States. The idea came about after seeing
some guns that fired paint balls to mark trees and
cattle. This is how the first outdoor paintball field
was created. Later it was in Australia that the first
covered field was created. It expands rapidly in
Europe, although in Spain it is not introduced
until 1992, without success. Despite this, in 1994
paintball fields emerged again with assured
success.

SAFETY RULES
IN PAINTBALL
• The most important safety standard of
paintball is that all players must wear
a protective mask, usually made of
plastic that covers the entire face and
curves above the ears, at all times
when playing or stays near markers
without cannon lock.
5
In addition to the mandatory use of masks, markers must not shoot paintballs above a certain speed. Paint
balls fired at more than 90 m / s cause large bruises and can break the skin and even the fingers. Many
commercial paintball facilities require a lower speed, usually about 65-80 m / s, in order to have an extra
safety margin. Even lower speeds can be painful over short distances. So you should avoid shooting from too
close. The maximum speed allowed for a ball is standardized at 300 feet per second (90 m / s).

CANNON LOCKING
DEVICES
•All players must use some type of cannon blocking
device on their markers when they are not actively
participating in a game. These devices usually have
the shape of a small bag or plug (known as a
condom or cannon pacifier) that covers the end of
the barrel and is attached by an elastic cord wound to
the marker. The cannon sock would catch any ball of
paint shot by accident.

ELIMINATION OF
PLAYERS
• Players eliminate each other from the game by
touching their opponents with a paint ball that hits
them and leaves them with a paint mark.
