by adding the suffix –
ed to the infinitive.
e.g. Yesterday I worked in the evening.
The Spelling rules for the past:
Inf. + -ed:
e.g. want- wanted

If ending –e + -d
e.g. arrive-arrived
hate-hated
love-loved
If ending consonant is “y”: change into “ied”
e.g. try-tried
One- syllable verbs (CVC): double the cons. + -ed
