1. To relate a story or to recount
events, an author uses narrative
writing.
2. To tell what something looks
like, sounds like, or feels like,
the author uses descriptive

TONE & MODE
- Both deal with the emotions
centered around the piece of
writing.
- Though they seem similar and
can be related casually, they are
in fact different.
TONE
- Is writer-centered.
- It is the attitude a writer takes
toward the subject or the reader.
- You can recognize the tone/attitude
by the language/word choices the
author uses.
TONE
- His/her language reveal his/her
perspective/opinion (that is whether
it is positive or negative)about the
subject.
- Tone must be inferred through the
use of descriptive words.
MOOD
- Is reader-centered and is influenced by
the setting.
- It is the overall feeling or atmosphere
created by a work of literature.
- The authors can move their readers’
moods through their choice of words and
level of detail.

To relate the reader’s life to the story, to convince the
reader to believe, and to inform and teach the reader.

Tone is when stripe understand his purpose, that is to be


the hope for the flowers.

The mood is positive. Yes the author was able to move my feelings
because it was written in a very clear manner that the reader was
able to understand the story easily.
