Bible Study - John 6 Part 2
In John 6:1-15, we examined not only the miracle or the sign of Jesus
Christ feeding more than 5,000 persons with 2 small fishes and 5 barley
loaves of bread, and the four lessons we can take out therefrom but in
reading on from verses 27- 71, we see Jesus Christ presenting Himself as
the Bread of Life. Hence in these verses:
15 mentions are made of the word “bread”
2 mentions are made of the words “I am the Bread of Life”

First Reading

The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw
that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were
entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples
were gone away alone;

(Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did
eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)

When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they
also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.

And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him,
Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which

you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work
the works of God?

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that
ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that
we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave
them bread from heaven to eat.

Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses
gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the
true bread from heaven.

For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and
giveth life unto the world.

Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to
me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that
cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the
will of him that sent me.

And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which
he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again
at the last day.
40
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth
the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will
raise him up at the last day.
What do these verses tell us?
There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but

Biblical Numerology
Number 2: Symbolic of a witness (Exodus 25:22; Matthew 26:60; Luke 10:1). Christ sent
his disciples out two by two, and wherever two are gathered in His name He is present, etc.
Number 5: Symbolic of grace (Leviticus 1-5; Genesis 43:34; Matthew 14:17). Five types of
offering in Leviticus, the Book of Psalms is divided into five sections, five books of the Law.
The Tabernacle contained five curtains, five pillars, five sockets, five bars, and the altar was
five cubits by five cubits, etc.
Number 12: symbolizes spiritual authority (Matthew 10:2-4; Revelation 7; 10:2-4). Twelve
tribes, twelve apostles, Jacob had twelve sons, God ordered that twelve loaves of unleavened
bread be present in the temple each week, etc.

When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him,

3. Jesus works with little - 9 ….but what are they among so many?

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to

pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
He walked on the sea [water] Verse 25; the wind ceased – Verse
31 – Therefore he showed His power over nature. i.e. water and
wind.
Note: the 4 elements of nature are earth, water, air [wind] and
fire. Water and air [wind] are essential for life on Earth.
it is I [I AM]; be not afraid - Verse 27
He is worshipped – verse 32
