 In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning
 2 until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the
apostles whom he had chosen.
 3 After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them
during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
 4 While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of
the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me;
 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

 10 But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit[i] is life because of

 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead
will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.
So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—

 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the
body, you will live.

 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

that we may also be glorified with him.

Those who are unspiritual do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and

 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be
cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;

 5 and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord;

 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.
 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge
according to the same Spirit,
 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to
another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
 11 All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit
chooses.

SUMMARY
Sometimes new believers think their lives will be easier now that they’re saved, but this is not usually the
case.
In fact, we may experience even more challenges and problems. That’s when we could start wondering
where God is or why He isn’t answering our prayers as we hoped. If we don’t know which way to turn,
we might begin to feel overwhelmed and alone. But if we’ve accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and
Lord, we are never truly alone because we have been promised a Helper to dwell within us—the Holy
Spirit.
SERMON POINTS
Before Jesus went to the cross, He told His disciples that He would send them a Helper.
The Holy Spirit is a member of the Trinity along with the Father and the Son. Yet some believers may
not understand that God in the person of His Spirit has taken up residence in them. Instead of living in
the Spirit’s power and provisions, they simply do the best they can in their own strength and wait for the
day they can finally go to heaven. The result is a dissatisfied life filled with disappointment in God.
However, the problem is not God but ignorance of the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance in their lives.
All we need to live the Christian life has been deposited within us. If we are willing to yield ourselves to
Him, we may freely draw on the resources of God’s Spirit. Our divine Helper is always there to attend to
us in our need. At no point since trusting Jesus as our Savior have we ever been alone or helpless, even if
that was how we felt. He is always present and actively working in our lives.
What is the work of the Holy Spirit?
Convicts Us of Sin. “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness
and judgment” (John 16:8). First of all, He makes us realize that we are sinners in need of salvation so
that we will repent and turn to Christ in faith and receive forgiveness for our sins. And even after
salvation, He continues to convict us when we fail to live as we should by reminding us that sin no longer
fits us since we are followers of Jesus.
Seals Us. “In Him (Christ), you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—
having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise” (Eph. 1:13). In those days a
seal was used to authenticate, show ownership, and protect. The Holy Spirit seals us in Christ as children
of God who are now under His divine protection. This seal can never be broken—not by God, the devil,
or us. However, this doesn’t mean we can sin without consequence. God’s conviction will continue, and
His discipline will follow.
Indwells Us. “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ
Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Rom.
8:11). The Holy Spirit is an eternal gift sent to live in us, and we are under His divine leadership and
empowered to do whatever He requires of us.
Teaches Us. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you
all things” (John 14:26). Because He is God, the Spirit is a teacher who surpasses all others. He guides us
as we read God’s Word and helps us interpret it accurately. The Bible is an amazing treasure God has
given us, and as we faithfully read it, asking the Spirit to teach us, He will help us comprehend it.
Reveals Truth to Us. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
so that we may know the things freely given to us by God” (1 Cor. 2:12). What is promised here is divine
knowledge, which reaches far beyond ourselves and this universe, and it is found in God’s Word. We
may not understand immediately what a passage means or how to apply it, but if we’ll keep seeking and
searching God’s Word, the Spirit will give us understanding. However, if we give up reading the Word,
we’ll lack the wisdom that comes only from God.
Guides Us. “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13).
Our Helper is also our Guide. He helps us discern what is true and guides us in making right decisions.
Instead of seeking other people’s advice, we should ask the Holy Spirit to direct us.
Bears Fruit Through Us. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23). Often the way these character qualities are grown in
us is through circumstances that might otherwise cause us to respond in an opposite manner. For
instance, if we are having trouble loving someone, the Holy Spirit can change our attitude if we will ask
Him for help and genuinely desire to walk in obedience to Him.
Reminds Us. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you
all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (John 14:26). Although Christ’s
disciples had been with Him and heard Him teach for three years, they only had their memories after He
was gone. To teach others about Jesus, they needed the Holy Spirit to help them remember. And even
today, we need His help to bring to mind passages that apply to particular situations. If we’ll be faithful
to read the Bible, the Spirit will help us remember it.
Equips Us With Spiritual Gifts. “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:4). The
Spirit gives us special abilities, enabling us to serve one another in the manner He desires.
Empowers Us. “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My
witnesses” (Acts 1:8). His strength enables us to accomplish whatever He calls us to do and equips us in
every area of life.
Fills Us. “Be filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18). This is a life governed and guided by the Holy Spirit and
ever conscious of His indwelling presence. No believer has a legitimate excuse for not obeying God
because the Spirit has equipped each of us to do whatever He desires or commands.

1:13). En aquellos días, se usaba un sello para autenticar, mostrar propiedad y proteger. El Espíritu
Santo nos sella en Cristo como hijos de Dios que ahora están bajo su protección divina. Este sello nunca
puede ser roto, ni por Dios, ni por el diablo, ni por nosotros. Sin embargo, esto no significa que podemos
pecar sin consecuencias. La convicción de Dios continuará, y Su disciplina seguirá.
Habita en Nosotros. “Pero si el Espíritu de aquel que levantó de los muertos a Jesús mora en vosotros, el
que levantó de los muertos a Cristo Jesús vivificará también vuestros cuerpos mortales por su Espíritu
que mora en vosotros” (Rom. 8:11). El Espíritu Santo es un don eterno enviado para vivir en nosotros, y
estamos bajo Su dirección divina y facultados para hacer todo lo que Él requiera de nosotros.
Nos enseña. “Pero el Consolador, el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, él os
enseñará todas las cosas” (Juan 14:26). Porque Él es Dios, el Espíritu es un maestro que supera a todos
los demás. Él nos guía mientras leemos la Palabra de Dios y nos ayuda a interpretarla con precisión. La
Biblia es un tesoro asombroso que Dios nos ha dado, y mientras la leemos fielmente, pidiéndole al
Espíritu que nos enseñe, Él nos ayudará a comprenderla.
Nos revela la verdad. “Ahora hemos recibido, no el espíritu del mundo, sino el Espíritu que proviene de

las decisiones correctas. En lugar de buscar el consejo de otras personas, debemos pedirle al Espíritu
Santo que nos dirija.
Da fruto a través de nosotros. “El fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad,
fidelidad, mansedumbre, templanza” (Gálatas 5:22-23). A menudo, la forma en que estas cualidades de
carácter se desarrollan en nosotros es a través de circunstancias que, de lo contrario, podrían hacer que
respondamos de manera opuesta. Por ejemplo, si tenemos problemas para amar a alguien, el Espíritu
Santo puede cambiar nuestra actitud si le pedimos ayuda y genuinamente deseamos caminar en
obediencia a Él.
Recuerdanos. “Pero el Consolador, el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, él os

manera que Él desea.
Nos empodera. “Recibiréis poder cuando el Espíritu Santo haya venido sobre vosotros; y seréis mis
testigos” (Hechos 1:8). Su fuerza nos permite lograr todo lo que Él nos llama a hacer y nos equipa en
cada área de la vida.
Nos Llena. “Sed llenos del Espíritu” (Efesios 5:18). Esta es una vida gobernada y guiada por el Espíritu
Santo y siempre consciente de Su presencia interior. Ningún creyente tiene una excusa legítima para no
obedecer a Dios porque el Espíritu nos ha equipado a cada uno de nosotros para hacer lo que Él desea o
manda.

Juan 16, La promesa del Espíritu Santo

Si me amáis, guardaréis mis mandamientos.
 16 Y yo rogaré al Padre, y Él os dará otro Consolador[e] para que esté con vosotros para siempre;
 17 es decir, el Espíritu de verdad, a quien el mundo no puede recibir, porque ni le ve ni le
conoce, pero vosotros sí le conocéis porque mora con vosotros y estará en vosotros.
 18 No os dejaré huérfanos; vendré a vosotros.
 19 Un poco más de tiempo y el mundo no me verá más, pero vosotros me veréis; porque yo vivo, vosotros
también viviréis.
 20 En ese día conoceréis que yo estoy en mi Padre, y vosotros en mí, y yo en vosotros.
 21 El que tiene mis mandamientos y los guarda, ese es el que me ama; y el que me ama será amado por mi

mundo?
 23 Jesús respondió, y le dijo: Si alguno me ama, guardará mi palabra; y mi Padre lo amará, y vendremos
a él, y haremos con él morada.
 24 El que no me ama, no guarda mis palabras; y la palabra que oís no es mía, sino del Padre que me
envió.

Estas cosas os he dicho estando con vosotros.
 26 Pero el Consolador, el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, Él os enseñará todas las
cosas, y os recordará todo lo que os he dicho.
Lucas 24, Jesús se aparece a los discípulos
Mientras ellos relataban estas cosas, Jesús se puso en medio de ellos, y les dijo: Paz a vosotros.

 37 Pero ellos, aterrorizados y asustados, pensaron que veían un espíritu.

 38 Y Él les dijo: ¿Por qué estáis turbados, y por qué surgen dudas en vuestro corazón?

La gran comisión

Y les dijo: Esto es lo que yo os decía cuando todavía estaba con vosotros: que era necesario que se
cumpliera todo lo que sobre mí está escrito en la ley de Moisés, en los profetas y en los salmos.

 46 y les dijo: Así está escrito, que el Cristo[u] padeciera y resucitara de entre los muertos al tercer día;
 47 y que en su nombre se predicara el arrepentimiento para el perdón de los pecados a todas las naciones,

 49 Y he aquí, yo enviaré sobre vosotros la promesa de mi Padre; pero vosotros, permaneced en la ciudad

Jesús se despide de sus discípulos
Entonces los condujo fuera de la ciudad, hasta cerca de Betania, y alzando sus manos, los bendijo.

 51 Y aconteció que mientras los bendecía, se separó de ellos y fue llevado arriba al cielo.

John 16, La obra del Espíritu Santo

Pero yo os digo la verdad: os conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a

vosotros; pero si me voy, os lo enviaré.

 8 Y cuando Él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio;
 9 de pecado, porque no creen en mí;
 10 de justicia, porque yo voy al Padre y no me veréis más;
 11 y de juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ha sido juzgado.
 12 Aún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis soportar.
 13 Pero cuando Él, el Espíritu de verdad, venga, os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su
propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y os hará saber lo que habrá de venir. 
El me glorificará, porque tomará de lo mío y os lo hará saber.

 15 Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío; por eso dije que Él toma de lo mío y os lo hará saber.
 16 Un poco más, y ya no me veréis; y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis.
 17 Entonces algunos de sus discípulos se decían unos a otros: ¿Qué es esto que nos dice: «Un poco más, y
no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis» y «Porque yo voy al Padre»?
 18 Por eso decían: ¿Qué es esto que dice: «Un poco»? No sabemos de qué habla.
 19 Jesús sabía que querían preguntarle, y les dijo: ¿Estáis discutiendo entre vosotros sobre esto, porque
dije: «Un poco más, y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis»?
 20 En verdad, en verdad os digo que lloraréis y os lamentaréis, pero el mundo se alegrará; estaréis tristes,
pero vuestra tristeza se convertirá en alegría.
 21 Cuando la mujer está para dar a luz, tiene aflicción, porque ha llegado su hora; pero cuando da a luz al
niño, ya no se acuerda de la angustia, por la alegría de que un niño haya nacido en el mundo.
 22 Por tanto, ahora vosotros tenéis también aflicción; pero yo os veré otra vez, y vuestro corazón se
alegrará, y nadie os quitará vuestro gozo.
 23 En aquel día no me preguntaréis nada. En verdad, en verdad os digo: si pedís algo al Padre, os lo dará
en mi nombre.
 24 Hasta ahora nada habéis pedido en mi nombre; pedid y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo sea completo.

Estas cosas os he hablado en lenguaje figurado; viene el tiempo cuando no os hablaré más en lenguaje
figurado, sino que os hablaré del Padre claramente.
 26 En ese día pediréis en mi nombre, y no os digo que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros,
 27 pues el Padre mismo os ama, porque vosotros me habéis amado y habéis creído que yo salí del Padre.
 28 Salí del Padre y he venido al mundo; de nuevo, dejo el mundo y voy al Padre.
 29 Sus discípulos le dijeron*: He aquí que ahora hablas claramente y no usas lenguaje figurado.
 30 Ahora entendemos que tú sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto
creemos que tú viniste de Dios.
 31 Jesús les respondió: ¿Ahora creéis?
 32 Mirad, la hora viene, y ya ha llegado, en que seréis esparcidos, cada uno por su lado, y me dejaréis
solo; y sin embargo no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.
 33 Estas cosas os he hablado para que en mí tengáis paz. En el mundo tenéis tribulación; pero confiad, yo
he vencido al mundo.
Hechos 1, Introducción
1
 El primer relato que escribí, Teófilo, trató de todo lo que Jesús comenzó a hacer y a enseñar,
 2 hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba, después de que por el Espíritu Santo había dado instrucciones a
los apóstoles que había escogido.
 3 A estos también, después de su padecimiento, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas convincentes,
apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles de lo concerniente al reino de Dios.
 4 Y reuniéndolos, les mandó que no salieran de Jerusalén, sino que esperaran la promesa del Padre: La
cual, les dijo, oísteis de mí;
 5 pues Juan bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de pocos días.
La ascensión
Entonces los que estaban reunidos, le preguntaban, diciendo: Señor, ¿restaurarás en este tiempo el reino

a Israel?
 7 Y Él les dijo: No os corresponde a vosotros saber los tiempos ni las épocas que el Padre ha fijado con su
propia autoridad;
 8 pero recibiréis poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre vosotros; y me seréis testigos en Jerusalén,
en toda Judea y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra.
 9 Después de haber dicho estas cosas, fue elevado mientras ellos miraban, y una nube le recibió y le
ocultó de sus ojos.
 10 Y estando mirando fijamente al cielo mientras Él ascendía, aconteció que se presentaron junto a ellos
dos varones en vestiduras blancas, 11 que[i] les dijeron: Varones galileos, ¿por qué estáis mirando al cielo?
Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido tomado de vosotros al cielo, vendrá de la misma manera, tal como le habéis
visto ir al cielo.
Hechos 7, Martirio de Esteban

Al oír esto, se sintieron profundamente ofendidos, y crujían los dientes contra él.
 55 Pero Esteban, lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijos los ojos en el cielo, vio la gloria de Dios y a Jesús de pie a la
diestra de Dios;
 56 y dijo: He aquí, veo los cielos abiertos, y al Hijo del Hombre de pie a la diestra de Dios.
 57 Entonces ellos gritaron a gran voz, y tapándose los oídos arremetieron a una contra él.
 58 Y echándolo fuera de la ciudad, comenzaron a apedrearle; y los testigos pusieron sus mantos a los pies

1 Corinthians 12, Los dones espirituales

 En cuanto a los dones espirituales, no quiero, hermanos, que seáis ignorantes.
 2 Sabéis que cuando erais paganos, de una manera u otra erais arrastrados hacia los ídolos mudos.
 3 Por tanto, os hago saber que nadie hablando por el Espíritu de Dios, dice: Jesús es anatema; y nadie
puede decir: Jesús es el Señor, excepto por el Espíritu Santo.
Diversidad y unidad de los dones

Ahora bien, hay diversidad de dones, pero el Espíritu es el mismo.
 5 Y hay diversidad de ministerios, pero el Señor es el mismo.
 6 Y hay diversidad de operaciones, pero es el mismo Dios el que hace todas las cosas en todos.
 7 Pero a cada uno se le da la manifestación del Espíritu para el bien común.
 8 Pues a uno le es dada palabra de sabiduría por el Espíritu; a otro, palabra de conocimiento según el
mismo Espíritu;
 9 a otro, fe por el mismo Espíritu; a otro, dones de sanidad por el único Espíritu;
 10 a otro, poder de milagros; a otro, profecía; a otro, discernimiento de espíritus; a otro, diversas clases de
lenguas, y a otro, interpretación de lenguas.
 11 Pero todas estas cosas las hace uno y el mismo Espíritu, distribuyendo individualmente a cada uno
según la voluntad de Él.

propósito de una vida frictífera.
