1. Teaching learning model (Gurukul) in


India in the old time.
In a gurukul, students had to memorise lessons that were
taught orally. After completing their education, the students
paid guru dakshina according to their means. The students
led simple and highly disciplined lives in gurukul.
2. Contribution of the British in introducing the
schooling system thus
laying the foundation of modernization of education in
our country.
 Education policy of the British: In pre-British days, Hindus and
Muslims were educated through Pathsala and Madrassa respectively,
but their advent created a new place of learning i.e. Missionaries. So
that, they can create a class of Indian who would be “Indian in blood
and colour, but English in taste” who would act as interpreters
between the Government and the masses.
3) Great thinkers and visionaries who endeavoured in promoting
education across the society.

 Tagore did not have any academic degree in education, but he was a great educator of his time. He not
only advocated changes in education but practiced them in his school at Shantiniketan. The school started
in 1901, was later Expanded and named Visva-Bharati, the International University Tagore was one of the
greatest supporters of women education. He viewed that man and women were complimentary to each
other leading to the concept of mutual respect and need. He was one of the strongest champions of the
cause of women. Therefore, he gave his views regarding different aspects to woman education. Through
education, he wanted to bring harmony between man and nature and man and God..
Gandhian model of education

 Gandhi's model of education was directed toward his alternative vision of the social order: "Gandhi's basic
education was, therefore, an embodiment of his perception of an ideal society consisting of small, self-
reliant communities with his ideal citizen being an industrious, self-respecting and generous individual.
Article 21A in Indian constitution and
Right to Education (RTE) Act.
 The Constitution (Eighty-sixth Amendment) Act, 2002 inserted Article 21-A in the Constitution of India
to provide free and compulsory education of all children in the age group of six to fourteen years as a
Fundamental Right in such a manner as the State may, by law, determine.
Present number of schools, colleges and universities
and other
institutions like IITs, IIMs, etc.
 If we talk about various educational institutions in India according to the survey of 2023, then:
 There are total 43,796 universities.
 There are total 1,113 collages.
 There are total 11,296 Standalone institutions.
 There are total 14,89,115 schools
 There are total 23 IIT institutions
 There are total 20 IIM institutions
7. Modern Indian as a chosen destination for many
countries to pursue
higher education
 Studying abroad gives you various opportunities such as being able
to pursue the course of your choice at your dream university.
What is this initiative of Azadi Ka Amrit
Mahotsav?
 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a Government of India initiative to honour and
celebrate 75 years of advanced India and the magnificent history of its culture,
people, and accomplishments.
