HANDLINE
This is a fishing device made of single vertical
lines carrying one or a series
of baited barb hooks. This works by simply
dropping it into the water and waiting for
the fish to bite
2. FISH CORAL OR
BAKLAD
This fishing device is
commonly constructed in sheltered waters shallow,
or deep, fresh or salty, close to shoreline. This type
of devices is composed of compartments, wings
ladders, and gates.
3. GILL
NET
This is a curtain-like net. This net is
usually used at night or early in the
morning by having them anchored to the
sea bottom or allowing them to move with
the current.
4. DRAG SEINE OR
PUKOT
This fishing device is used on smoothly,
gradually shelving
fishing shores and are always toward
theshores or river bank. It is made of
sinamay cotton, or nylon nettings.
5. COVER POT OR
SALAKAB
This is an entrapping device with
no return valve and with an
opening at the lower most end to
enclose the fish. It is used for
catching dalag.
6. LIFT NET
This is a square net which is operated on
rivers. Four persons operate
this from four bamboo posts by just
lifting the net without the use of pulleys
or blocks.
7. FILTER NET
This is a conical bag net without funnel-
shaped valves made of sinamay cloth or
cotton netting fixed in flowing water to
filter shrimps, crabs, fishes, and others.
8. DIP NET
This net is a simple instrument made
of a round frame and netting
material. A handle is provided to
hold the net when
it is used.
9. PUSH NET
It is a bag net, triangular in form,
and is attached to collapsible
wooden frame with a bamboo
handle. It can be operated by one
person.
10. LEVER NET
It is a semi-mechanized rigidly
framed lift net which is mounted on
a bamboo raft. This is operated by
lifting the net which is attached to
the end of a lever.
11. HOOP NET (BUKATOT NA LAMBAT)
This is a funnel-shaped bag net
constructed over circular frames that
have non-return valves but no wings.
It can catch fishes in rivers and places
with fast currents by straining the
water.
12. FYKE NET(DAYAKOS)
This is a winged conical filter net
with a series of circular hoops
leading into a closed sac or trap with
a small opening that makes exit
difficult.
13. POUND NET (OTOSHI -
AMI)
It is a fixed impounding net
supported by stakes or held in place
or maintained in form by a
combination of floats or bouys and
weights and anchors.
14. SKIMMING
NET
This is a lift push net operated in
deeper waters from a small banca or
raft, that uses a skimming motion
while drifting with the boat.
15. WOUNDING
GEAR
It is the simplest form of fishing
instrument manipulated by hand. It
is used to capture fish by wounding
them and rendering them dead or
stupefied.

1. Spear - It is a hand instrument
provided with pointed barbed blades at
the straight tip which are either thrown
by hand or with the aid of a bowlike
device. It is locally known as pana.

2. Harpoon - It is locally known as “PANIBAT”.
Harpooning is a traditional method of catching
large fish and it is still used today by skilled
fishermen. It is another wounding gear with
barbed blades detachable from the handle. It is
either discharged from a gun or thrown by hand.
