Hyperpigmentation

 Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition

characterised by the darkening of certain areas of
the skin due to increased melanin production.
Causes & Factors

 Sun exposure,
 Hormonal changes,
 Skin inflammation,
 Liver diseases,
 Pregnancy etc.
Laser Treatment

 Lasertreatment is a popular option for managing

hyperpigmentation.

 Itworks by targeting the melanin pigment in the

skin and breaking it down with the help of specific
wavelengths of light.
Types of Lasers to treat hyperpigmentation

 Q-switched Nd:YAG laser:

 Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy:
 Fractional laser resurfacing:
 PICO laser
Q-switched Nd:YAG laser:

 This laser emits short pulses of high-energy light that

can penetrate the skin deeply and break down the
melanin pigment. It is particularly effective in treating
Melasma, a type of hyperpigmentation that occurs due
to hormonal changes.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy:

This treatment uses a broad spectrum of light

to target and break down the melanin
pigment. It is particularly effective in
treating sunspots and freckles.
Fractional laser resurfacing:

This
 treatment uses a laser that delivers tiny,
evenly spaced beams of light to the skin,
creating micro-injuries that stimulate the
body's natural healing response. This helps to
reduce hyperpigmentation and improve overall
skin texture and tone.
Side effects of Laser

 Laser treatment is an effective option for managing

hyperpigmentation, but having some side effects like:
  Hypopigmentation in dark skin patients,
 Skin burn leading to scars or even hyperpigmentation.
PICO Laser

 is a laser device that uses very short pulse durations

to target endogenous pigmentation and exogenous
ink particles (tattoos).
