Because of this, hackers and terrorists are somewhat of a new threat to people. - Stealing identities and money through the internet brought about Cybercrime legislations. Cybercrime laws have to be introduced and constantly amended. WHY DO LAWS CHANGE? CHANGE IN TECHNOLOGY - In recent years, technology has been evolving rapidly. Because of this, hackers and terrorists are somewhat of a new threat to people. - Stealing identities and money through the internet brought about Cybercrime legislations. Cybercrime laws have to be introduced and constantly amended. • EXAMPLE: • Cybercrime Act 2001. Having unauthorised data on your computer • Cybercrime Legislation Amendment Act 2012 (Cth) . Getting data using scams. WHY DO LAWS CHANGE? FAILURE OF EXISTING LAWS WHY DO LAWS CHANGE? FAILURE OF EXISTING LAWS - The current law does not work or is ineffective, so it needs to be changed. WHY DO LAWS CHANGE? FAILURE OF EXISTING LAWS - The current law does not work or is ineffective, so it needs to be changed. • EXAMPLE: • Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Act 2008: • This was a change in the number of supervised hours a Learner driver must log in order to obtain their Provisional License. • This became legislation in 2008 after a fatal accident killed 4 teenage boys because of minimal driving experience. LETTER ACTIVITY • Find a school policy that you would like to see changed or amended. • Address the letter to “St Narsai Administration”. NOT to anyone specific. • State which policy you would like to see changed. • Keep the letters respectful. • Explain WHY you would like to see it changed. • You may use your laptops to use research or studies to back up your explanation as to why you think the policy should change.
