Why did Jesus choose Judas as a disciple

1. To warn each person to examine whether or

not he is saved.
2. To show that an unsaved person can live
and work in a godly atmosphere and remain
unsaved.
3. To demonstrate how people can talk and act
Jesus called the like Christians and yet turn against
12 disciples Christians, even as Judas betrayed Christ at
the very end.
4. To show that it is not always the fault of the
leader that followers go astray.

The disciples of Jesus did not understand the prophecy about

Jesus because they were blinded by their expectations

JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE
CHILDREN
Matthew 18:1-5

To enter the kingdom of heaven, an

adult must become childlike, for the
child has the three natural prerequisites
for salvation:
• Humility-A child is naturally humble;
he does not care what others think
of him.
• Teachable-A child’s mind is open
and without preconceived ideas
• Faith- A child believes what he is
told.
THE PARABLE OF THE
PRODIGAL SON

LUKE 15:11:32
THE PARALLELS IN THE PARABLE
OF THE PRODIGAL SON
• The father is God
• The prodigal son is the lost or wayward person
• The far country is a worldly, wicked lifestyle.
• The pigpen is the emptiness and soul-poverty that sin always
brings
• The happy reunion is the sinner returning to God
• The older brother is the cold, self-righteous believer who
resents God’s compassion and joy when a sinner comes to
God.
Themes in the
parable of the
prodigal son

1. The love of
god.

2. The grace
of god

3. The gift of
forgiveness
The encounter on the Mount of Transfiguration
LUKE 9:28-36
28
About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter,
John and James with him and went up onto a mountain
to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his
face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a
flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah,
appeared in glorious splendor, talking with
Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure, which he
was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter
and his companions were very sleepy, but when they
became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two
men standing with him.
33
As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him,
“Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up
three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one
for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
34
While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and
covered them, and they were afraid as they entered
the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying,
“This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to
him.” 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that
Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to
themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what
they had seen.
Lessons from the story of the rich young ruler
Matthew 19:16-30
It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to
enter the kingdom of God.
• Material possessions (riches) does not give spiritual satisfaction.
• God give us riches to be a channel of blessing to those who are less
fortunate
• Jesus is the answer to spiritual emptiness
• God is a God of second chances
The Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man
LUKE 16:19-31

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived
in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered
with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the
dogs came and licked his sores.22 “The time came when the beggar died and
the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was
buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw
Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in
water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’25 “But
Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good
things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and
you are in agony.
Continuation (Luke 16:11-31)

26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been
set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot,
nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’27 “He answered, ‘Then I
beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five
brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this
place of torment.’29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the
Prophets; let them listen to them.’30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said,
‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’31 “He
said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will
not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Mary anoints Jesus in Bethany
Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom
Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha
served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary
took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’
feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of
the perfume.4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him,
objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was
worth a year’s wages.[b]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but
because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to
what was put into it.7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she
should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor
among you,[c] but you will not always have me.” 9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews
found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see
Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests made plans to
kill Lazarus as well, 11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to
Jesus and believing in him.
THE SABBATH
Mark 2:27-28
• 27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was
made for man, not man for the Sabbath.’’ So
the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

seen the Lord!”But he (Thomas) said to
them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his
hands and put my finger where the nails
were, and put my hand into his side, I will
not believe.”
Matthew 28:16-20
Jesus gives the great commission

19 Therefore go and make

disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20
and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to
the very end of the age.”
A quotation posted on one of the walls going to
the High School section

The greatest want of the world is the want of

men-men who will not be bought or sold; men
who in their inmost souls are true and honest;
men who do not fear to call sin by its right
name; men whose conscience is as true to
duty as the needle to the pole; men who will
stand for the right though the heavens fall.
