HABIT 6 : SYNERGIZE

What does Synergize mean?

• Synergy simply means that we are stronger
together. By communicating, cooperating, and
combining our various differences together, we
are able to achieve more things together than
we could separately or alone.
• Synergy is the habit of teamwork, team
building, creative collaboration, and the
development of unity and creativity with other
people.
3 MAIN IDEAS
• 1. Synergy occurs when two or more
independent things combine into a whole that
is greater than the sum of its individual parts.
Together, we are stronger and can achieve
more and greater things than we could
achieve by ourselves as individuals.
• 2. The essence of synergy is to value
differences, build on strengths, and
compensate for weaknesses. This opens up
new insights, paradigms, perspectives that
bring about new innovations, options, and
alternatives that could not easily have been
achieved separately.
• 3. Believe in a third way or alternative. There
is almost always a third alternative. The third
alternative thinking offers a way to resolve
conflict and disagreement without any party
feeling as if they as compromised.

ways
• Synergy is the combination of all the other
habits to create something that is bigger than
the sum of its individual components.
• Through creative collaboration, synergy allows
for new possibilities, arrangements or
solutions that are better than those that
would have occurred if each person operated
individually.
• Conversation and communication is essential
to creating synergy. We must learn to
communicate with one another. We need to
brainstorm, talk through issues, bounce ideas
off each other.
Celebrating Differences

• Leaders value differences, as an advantage not

a weakness.

• They have learned that two people who think

differently can achieve more than two people
who think alike.

HABIT 7 – SHARPEN THE SAW
HABIT 7 – SHARPEN THE SAW
• Sharpening the saw means continually honing
our personal development through deliberate
actions that renew and recharge our energy.

• The result is a happy, holistically healthy, and

effective individual.
Sharpening the saw involves four separate
dimensions
1. Physical
2. Mental
3. Spiritual
4. Social/Emotional
Physical exercise
-We must ensure our bodies have the health and vitality to
tackle life’s demands. It is challenging to be effective if you feel
sick or physically unhealthy. Activities that engender the renewal
of physical energy include:

-Exercising: walking, running, playing sports, lifting weights.

-Eating healthy: eating fresh fruits and vegetables and being
mindful of processed foods and sugar.
-Staying hydrated.
-Spending time in nature.
-Getting enough sleep.
Mental
-Mental health is just as important as physical health. Just like
exercising, we must make concerted efforts to prioritize
renewing our mental energy.

Consider some activities that stimulate and calm the mind:

-Meditation.
-Reading books.
-Learning new things: attend classes, workshops, or seminars.
-Pursuing hobbies and interests.
-Playing an instrument.
-Watching a documentary.
Spiritual
- Spiritual renewal involves reflecting, solidifying our values and beliefs,
and cultivating a sense of purpose in life.

- Spiritual renewal can include engaging in things like:

-Meditation
-Prayer
-Volunteering
-Journaling
-Self-reflection
-Silence and gratitude
-Fasting
Social/Emotional
- Humans are social, emotional beings. We must take care of our
health in these areas by reflecting on our emotions and relationships.
Social/emotional renewal can mean some of the following:

- Spending time with loved ones.

- Hanging out with friends.
- Going to a concert.
- Having a meaningful conversation.
- Practicing empathy.
- Hosting a dinner party.
- Distancing ourselves from toxic people.
