Background of the Study

Deworming chicken doesn’t always have to require chemical treatments, a

number of natural alternatives such as POMECOCO that can treat and prevent
these. POMECOCO can help eliminate worms from the body. Because some
chicken owners expressing concern about the side effects of chemical deworming
products, it’s good to know that there are number of natural alternatives which is
more beneficial with no or less side effects. The purpose of deworming isby
reducing the transmission of infection in the community as a whole, deworming
substantially improves health. In terms of what the most effective methods of
deworming chicken is, the safest is that to apply it every month or up to 3 months
as preventive measure, it much better to stop worms rather than cure them.
Pomelo seeds extract mixed with coconut oil is prepared simply by sprinkling it
on food, or by preparing it through syringe and directly putting it to the mouth.
Giving it 1 tsp. to small and medium chicken and 2-3 tsp. to a large chicken.
It is to avoid also to deworm chicken under six weeks of age or during
winter. Symptoms of a worm infestation in chicken can include: worms in
eggs, abnormal droppings (diarrhea, foamy looking) weightless, pale,
listleness, dirty vent feathers, worms in dropping or on throat, gasping, head
stretching, shaking and reduced egg production and sudden death. While
chickens are generally easy to keep, they do require some regular care to
keep them healthy, one of the things chicken needs is regular deworming.
Deworming services are essential for removing disease-causing parasites in
form animals. Disease brought on by parasites are serious, resulting in
discomfort and death, if left untreated. We do not want such to happen to
our poultry animals.
HYPOTHESIS
This study of determining the effectiveness of Pomecoco/Pomelo
seeds and coconut oil extract on deworming chicken.

 NULL HYPOTHESIS

The Pomecoco extract is not effective as an alternative on

deworming chicken.

 ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS

The Pomecoco extracts is effective as an alternative on

deworming chicken.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The researchers aim to determine weather Pomecoco (Pomelo and

coconut Oil Extract) is
an effective alternative dewormer on chicken.

How effective is Pomecoco in terms of deworming chicken?

How eco-friendly is Pomecoco compared to a commercial dewormer?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research study can provide the community a new knowledge of
deworming chicken. This research study will conduct to find an effective
natural dewormer which is Pomelo and Coconut Oil extract. It is important
because Pomecoco is indicated as indicated as effective chicken dewormer.
Pomelo seeds extract is rich in powerful antioxidants like vitamin C. It also
contains protein and fiber, can be anti-bacterial and exerts more efficacy as an
antimicrobial. It is also highly nutritious, promote weight loss, may boost heart
health, may have anti-aging properties, can be antifungal and may fight cancer
cells. While there are also an evidence basehealth benefits on coconut oil, may
lose weight, It is also antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
Coconut oil has many nutrients that can contribute to health and to a good
diet. It has full of fatty acids that body needs and improve. Therefore,
Pomelo seed extract and coconut oil (Pomecoco) can help reduce the
parasites and intestinal worms in chicken. Pomelo seed extract
and coconut oil (Pomecoco) might have several benefits to the chicken
that have been dewormed. These can also improve overall health of the
chicken, digestive health and egg production of the chicken.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Pomelo tree maybe 16 to 50 ft. (5-15m) tall, with a somewhat crooked trunk
4 to 12 inches (10-30cm) thick and low irregular branches. Pomelos have a
much bigger fruit with thick peels and are less juicy than grapefruits. They
also have a firm or pink flesh with crisp capillary membranes and juice sacs.
They are white or pink fleshed and are seeded. Based on my research about
pomelo I found out that pomelo had 9 health benefits to us. Pomelo is full of
fiber, rich in antioxidants and can be an antibacterial and antifungal which is
good for my research. Coconut oil is an edible oil derived from the wick,
meat and milk of the coconut palm fruit. Coconut oil is a white solid fat in
warmer climates during the summer month, it is a clean thin liquid oil,
melting at warmer temperature around 25C. Unrefined varieties have a
distinct coconut aroma. antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
The Pomelo seeds extract has potential to be an antiglycation agent and
affects remarkable prospects for prevention of pathogenesis. The pomelo
(Citrus maxima or citrus grandis) is the largest citrus fruit from the
Rutaceae family. It is also known as shaddock who was said to have
brought seeds of the fruit from the Malay archipelago to the west Indies.
On an East India company ship in the 7th century.
In my study, pomelo seeds extract mixed with coconut oil is effective against
egg and adult parasites. It is used to control worm in poultry chicken. They
are non-toxic and be used without limitation. This is why chicken raised under
household care are more nutritious and safe commercially. This natural
materials are safe for use, they have no withdraw period and are safe
for human consumption as they do not have residual effects on chicken and
humans uponconsumption. They also make the chicken more sumptuous and
give it a nice taste. Organic poultry farming is the solution to sustainable
poultry production. This study using organic deworming is a preventive
measure of controlling worms in chicken. Although, this is also serves as a
curative measure, however prevention is better than cure and most times the
preventive measures are readily available and cheaper as compared to curative
measure. The components of the materials used are pomelo seeds, coconut oil,
small pan, measuring cup, 1cc syringe, mortar and pestle and jar.
These are the procedure , first let the pomelo seeds dry for two days. After
drying the pomelo seeds, remove the outermost layer of the seeds which is
called the seed coat, then put all together the clean pomelo seeds and
pulverized the seed using mortal and pestle and place it in a clean separate
bowl. After that, heat the mixture for 20-30 minutes, stirring periodically until
the seeds are completely cooked through. Then remove the pan from the heat
and let it cool for 10 minutes before straining the oil through a piece of cloth.
Once strained, transfer the coconut oil and pomelo seed extract into a glass
container. Lastly, put 1 tablespoon of the product into a cup then use this
as a deworming solution for the chicken.
The components of commercial chicken dewormer contains fenbendazole,
ivermectin, albendazole, or levamisole. Some chicken dewormer also contain
piperazine.

METHODOLOGY AND PROCEDURE

Research methodology is a significant aspect of research which is

considered as the framework within which the research to be conducted
and based upon in this chapter, it includes the research design, area of the
study, research approach and the procedures. The research aims to
determine the effectiveness of Pomelo seed extract and coconut oil
(Pomecoco) in deworming chickens.
Research Design

This study will use (CRD) Complete Randomized Design because the
dependent variable
in this study have the same characteristics. This study will have 2 trials
with one control group
and one experimental group. This research design will determine the
effectiveness of the Pomelo
seed extract and coconut oil (Pomecoco) in deworming chickens.
Area of the Study

This experiment about determining the effectiveness of the

Pomelo seed extract and coconut oil (Pomecoco) in deworming
chicken was conducted at Purok 7 Bubulusan Guinobatan Albay. The
reason why this place is chosen because this is where my father’s
chicken poultry
located.
Research Approach

There are two types of research approach, the quantitative approach

and the qualitative approach. The quantitative approach was numerical
data or data that are quantified while the qualitative data uses descriptive
data or data that is not quantified. This study will use qualitative
approach because in this study I will just observe the effect of pomelo
seed extract and coconut oil (Pomecoco) on the chicken.

Result and Discussion

Result

The result of using pomelo seed extract and coconut oil as a chicken dewormer
appear to be promising. Studies have shown that both ingredients are effective
in killing of certain types of intestinal worms. In addition, pomelo seed extract
and coconut oil have been found to have fewer negative effects on the chicken
rather than the traditional dewormers. However, further studies are needed to
determine the full benefits and efficacy of these ingredients as a chicken
dewormer. Additionally, it is important to consider the cost effectiveness of
those ingredients in comparison to some traditional dewormer.
