• Diễn tả hành động hay sự việc đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.

• Ví dụ: I met her last summer.

• Diễn tả hành động thường làm hay quen làm trong quá khứ.

• Ví dụ: She often went swimming every day last year.

• yesterday (hôm qua)

• last night/week/month/…(Tối qua/tuần trước/tháng

• ago (cách đây), (two hours ago: cách đây 2 giờ/two weeks

• in + thời gian trong quá khứ (in 1990)

1. Quy tắc chung: V + ed
• Want=> wanted
• Play=> played
2. Động từ tận cùng là e + d
Smile=> smiled
Like=> liked
3. Động từ tận cùng là y. trước nó là phụ âm đổi y= ied
Try=> tried
Cry=> cried
4. Động từ ngắn tận cùng là 1 phụ âm, trước nó là một nguyên âm, nhân
đôi phụ âm + ed.
Stop=> stopped
