Goals and Objectives

The goals of LPD are:

 To develop a program such that there are
reduced lubricant related failures
 Uses the fewest correct lubricants and
minimizes waste
 Lubricant is applied in the right manner, at right
time and in right amounts
 Integrates plants preventive and predictive
maintenance goals into the lubrication program
 Continually investigates and implements
methods to improve and achieve the above
goals

Benchmarking Definition
 Conceptually benchmarking can be characterized in a variety of
ways.
 Xerox, the company that made benchmarking a household
word, defines benchmarking as “the continuous process of
measuring (our) products, services and practices against those
of our toughest competitors or companies renowned as
leaders”
 An alternative definition for benchmarking is an organizing
process for measuring and improving business practices against
the companies that can be identified as the best worldwide.
 A third definition is “benchmarking sources best practices to
feed continuous improvement”
 Optimum Reference State (ORS)

By developing a lubrication program with ORS attributes and using a few critical tactics,
you can realize the benefits of improved machine reliability and reduced costs.
Lubrication Program Development
 LPD is benchmarking assessment that ranks
the lubrication program in twelve key areas
of lubrication and identifies significant
deviation from best practices and provides
recommendation for future improvement.
 Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats are identified and documented and
presented to key personnel for
implementation.
Lubrication Program Development
Using propriety software process, Noria
transforms a customer’s lubrication program
from its current state to best practice, world
class standards in a fraction of a time and
cost. Noria’s LPD is a phased approach and is
performed in three phases. It involves
benchmarking assessment, detailed
engineering design along with
implementation of the engineering design
and continuous improvement
Phase 1 of LPD
In phase one, objective is to identify low
hanging fruits, establish cost justification and
develop a plan to move forward. It consists of a
three day process consisting of
Staff interviews
Top level facility lubrication survey
Project Scoping and planning (SWOT analysis)
Report development
Report out to management
Basic lubrication awareness training
An executive summary containing detailed cost/benefit
analysis
Supporting best practice documentation
Phase 1 Procedures and Job Plans
Phase one begins with benchmarking assessment
that
Scores the lubrication program in 12 key areas of
lubrication as mentioned before
Identifies significant deviations from best practice in
each area and illustrates corrective actions
Outlines financial justification and realistic plans for
project management and completion
Serves as the baseline to measure program
improvement
Provides the education to kick-start culture change
and project buy-in

Phase 2 of LPD
Phase two is detailed engineering design and
consists of
Review of each machine and the facility
How to deploy best practices
Assessment and management of risks
Reengineering and deployment of a database of
procedures
Modifications to equipment as required
Specific recommendations
Highly customized work plans and procedures
Lubrication selection and optimization
Re-lubrication practices
Contamination control practices
Oil sampling and analysis
Phase 2 Procedures and Job Plans
The discovery data is uploaded into Noria’s
proprietary software to produce exacting best
practice lubrication procedures and job plans
that include:
Equipment hardware modifications necessary for proper
contamination control, instant inspections and sampling
Lubrication procedures and inspections that outline the
optimum lubricant, frequency, volume and cleanliness
PM and on-condition procedures such as oil changes, top-
ups and filtration
Oil analysis program procedures such as sampling and test
slates
Phase 3 of LPD
Phase three of LPD involves implementation
of the engineering design which includes
Procurement and modification of hardware
Hardware installation
Training and supervision
Staff training
Lubrication route development
Establishment of lubrication metrics (KPIs)
Phase 3 Procedures and Job Plans
A comprehensive implementation plan is outlined and
we work with you through completion
 Training the lubrication team on how to run and manage the
new, engineered lubrication program, including lubrication route
optimization and full lubricant consolidation provided by the
engineering design
 Vendor neutral hardware supplier reports for needed equipment
modifications and storage and handling. These reports contain
multiple suppliers and product options allow easy budget
planning and turnkey, one source product procurement. These
reports are based on your engineering design, eliminating over
or mis-buying of products, which can save tens of thousands of
dollars
 Training the team on best practice hardware installation
 Assisting with integration of the engineering design into the
CMMS, EMS or lube/maintenance scheduling program
 Establish a labeling system and machine tags
Phase 3 Procedures and Job Plans
Establish KPIs to measure the success of the
program
Lube tech work requests
Route compliance
Lubricant consumption
Lubricant cleanliness
Tracking mean time between failures
Program re-benchmarking
