This structure pattern koko/soko/asoko wa nan desu ka? is used
to ask a name of a place in terms of the function or purpose of
its use. koko means “this place”, soko means “that place”,
asoko means “that place over there” and nan desu means
“what is”.

Note:
Koko wa doko desu ka?
simply means where am I?

リア : えきはあそこです .

Let us take a look with the sentence pattern:


•“wa” indicates the topic of the sentence
•“doko” is the word for “where” in Japanese
•“desu” Is used at the end of the sentence and translates to “is
/ it is”
•“ka” is the question marker
