present tense

The Simple Present Tense is a verb


with two main uses. We use the
simple present tense when an
action is happening right now, or
when it happens repeatedly.

1. Except, for third person pronouns,
use verb 1 + s/es
1 For verbs ending in -O,-CH,-SH,-X, or -z 2 For verbs that end in consonant + Y,
add -ES remove the Y and add -IES

How to make the Simple Present
Tense Negative

The formula for making a simple present tense verb negative except To be,
is: S+DON'T/DOESN'T+Verb (1)+O
If the verb is To be, the formula
becomes: • S+ (is,am,are)+not+O

example simple present tense negative:


• Susi Pudjiastuti is not the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
• She doesn’t read Harry Potter book everyday.
• They don’t watch new movies every sunday.

• Note: for the subject of the third form (she, he it), after
the word don't or doesn't, the verb is not added s / es.
How to make the Simple Present
Tense Interogative

The formula for making a simple present tense interogative, usually add
Do/Does in front of the sentence: Do/Does+S+Verb 1+O

Do is used if the subject is I,You,We,They.


However,Does is used if the subject is She,He,It

example simple present tense interogative:


• Does she read Harry potter book ?
• Do they watch new movie everyday ?
• Do you play basketball every morning ?

• Note: If the verb (verb) is To Be or Modal, then don't use the


word do or does.
