ASPHALT RUBBER

PAVEMENTS
The Safe, Sound, &
Durable Solution
The STRATCO Global family of companies is
devoted to providing the technology and products
that make the world safer, cleaner and better.
ASPHALT RUBBER – WHY USE IT?

 Improves our Environment

 Improves Safety

 Increases Lifetime of Pavement

 Reduces Costs
ASPHALT RUBBER – WHAT IS IT?

ASPHALT RUBBER is defined by the

American Society for Testing Materials
(ASTM) D8-88 as: "A blend of asphalt
cement, reclaimed tire rubber, and
certain additives in which the rubber
component is at least 15%** by weight
of the total blend and has reacted in the
hot asphalt cement sufficiently to
cause swelling of the rubber particles".

**More Typical Would Be 17%-20%

• 10 dB increase = double noise loudness
• On high speed motorways, the tyre/road interface contributes
approximately 70% to total noise

Environmental Benefits: Noise Reduction
Noise Abatement Alternatives
 Erect Obstructions: Berms and/or Sound Walls
 Height & Line of sight dependent
 Up to $1.5 Million/Km
 Plant trees, shrubs, bushes
 Density dependent
 Control/Modify surface texture
 > $7/m2 (plus cleanup & traffic control)

Or, choose the best alternative…reduce the

noise at its source.
