HAZARD AND RISK

HAZARD
• A hazard is a potential source of harm. Substances, events, or
circumstances can constitute hazards when their nature would allow
them, even just theoretically, to cause damage to health, life, property,
or any other interest of value.
• Basically , a hazard can cause harm or adverse effects{to individuals as
health effects or to organizations as property or equipments losses}
• Something can even be considered a hazard if it would be a trigger for
causing another hazard to become present, which could hurt someone
or something in the area.
Example of Hazard
• Knife
• Needles
• Lighter
• Iron
• Muriatic acid
• Wet floor
• Electricity
TYPE OF HAZARD
• Fire Hazards – Anything that has the potential to catch on fire, or
cause something else to catch on fire.
• Biological Hazards – Products that can be dangerous to living
things. This could be something that will result in an illness or
cause other biological problems.
• Chemical Hazards – Dangerous chemicals that can have reactions
that are dangerous are seen to be very hazardous.
• Physical Hazards – Anything that has the potential to cause
physical damage or injury.
RISK
• Risk is the chance or probability that a person will be harmed or
experience an adverse health effect if exposed to a hazard. It may also
apply to situations with property or equipment loss.
• The word “risk” means the possibility of suffering a harmful event.
Risk taking can bring either positive or negative result because
anytime we take risks in life, there is a possibility of loss which can
cause tension. There are a lot of people who take big risks and appear
not to be affected by them.
Example of Risk
• Needles are pointy that could injure people
• Can burn people
• It can bum people if its turn on
• It can bum skin with its acidity
• Slips,and falls
• shock,,and electrocution
• Scissors are sharp objects that could easily injure people
RISK ASSESMENT
• Risk assessment determines possible mishaps, their
likelihood and consequences, and the tolerances for such
events. The results of this process may be expressed in a
quantitative or qualitative fashion.
