Review Lesson in Christian Living

1st Quarter
Hello, kids!
To help you prepare
for our Summative
Test, let us have a
review of the lessons
we discussed this
quarter.
Our Lessons:
1. I Know Myself
2. Jesus is My Friend
3. I Value Myself
4. God is Good
5. The Holy Rosary
6. I Have a Responsibility to Take Good Care
of Myself
I
KNOW
MYSELF
We all have our strengths and weaknesses.
Your strengths are the things that you are good at.
Some strengths are easy to see, like being good at
drawing, or being a fast runner.
Some strengths are not easily seen, like being a
good listener, or working well with other people.
Your weaknesses are things or actions you do that
do not help you to grow and develop as best as you
could. Instead of helping you to become a better
person, they prevent you from reaching your goals.
An example would be being lazy, not wanting to
study or listen in class. Another example would be
being very shy, so you do not recite or you do not
like to share your talents.
What can you do to build up
your self-esteem and become
a better person?
1. Trust yourself.

Be the first one to start a

conversation. Try to
make it interesting.
2. Be respectful.

Be gentle and respectful

when you are talking to
others. You should not be
the one doing all the talking.
Give others a chance to talk
as well. Listen to their
ideas.
3. Know how to
appreciate others.

Value the opinion and works

of others. Thank them if they
have helpful suggestions or
actions.
4. Be friendly.

Make friends with your

classmates, or other children
around you. Reach out to them,
and make sure that you and your
friends are respectful and kind to
one another.
5. Know how to listen.

Be attentive and listen

when somebody is
talking or sharing or
telling a story. When we
listen to the one speaking,
we show respect for
them.
6. Accept your mistakes.

We all make mistakes.

If you feel that you
have done wrong to
somebody, ask for
forgiveness or say you
are sorry.
7. Accept challenges.

Challenges are things that may not be

easy for you, like doing school work on
your own, or maybe being asked to do
something helpful at home that you do
not like doing. When you try hard to do
these things even when they’re not
easy, you grow and improve.
JESUS IS OUR FRIEND
Here are some ways we can be closer to
Jesus.
❖ We come to Jesus when we pray.

❖ We come to Him when we learn about him

from others.

❖ We come to Jesus when we go to church and

speak to him there, because he is present in
church in a special way.

❖We come to Jesus when we care for others as

Jesus would.
WHAT IS THE SIGN OF THE CROSS?
The sign of the cross is a prayer, a blessing,
and a sacramental. A sacramental means it’s an
action or thing blessed by the Church that will
help us grow closer to God.

When we make the sign of the cross, we are

drawing a cross on ourselves. This shows that
we are Jesus’ friends who believe that he died on
the Cross and rose for us.
I VALUE MYSELF
Things that you are good at are called your talents
and skills. Knowing that you are good at something
makes you feel good about yourself, doesn't it?

When people say good things about you,

it also makes you feel good about yourself, right?

That good feeling is part of your self-esteem,

or the way you feel about yourself.
What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem shows how a person gives value
for oneself. It is a personal feeling of
importance.
Self-esteem is also the feeling of confidence in
one’s own worth or abilities. It is having self-
respect, or pride in oneself.
The kids in this photo are playing together. They
are not shy to be with other children, and they
enjoy being with them.

The child in this photo is too shy to be with

others. He prefers to hide his face and would
rather play alone.
This girl doesn’t like to stand in front of
the class. She doesn’t like to recite
because she is scared of making mistakes.

This boy is willing to try out a sport. Even if

he is not yet very good at the game, he
practices and is not scared to make
mistakes.
How do you know if someone has a healthy,
or poor, self-esteem?

Kids with healthy self-esteem: Kids with poor self-esteem:

- criticize their self often
- feel liked and accepted - feel they're not as good as
- feel confident other kids
- feel proud of what they can do - think of the times they fail
- think good things about more than when they succeed
themselves - lack confidence
- believe in themselves - doubt they can do things well
GOD IS GOOD
Day 1 Do you remember what
God created on the first
day of creation?
God said,
“Let there be light.” And
there was light. He called the
light the name we use
now - day. And the darkness
He called night, just as you
and I do.
Day 2
On the second day, God
made the heavens by
dividing the waters above
from the waters beneath.
Now there was sky with
clouds to carry moisture.
Day 3 On the third day, God made
land and sea. He called the
dry land earth and the
gathering together of the
waters He called seas. God
made all the plants on the
third day, too.
All the plants and trees were
created then. And the fruit of
all the plants had seeds
in them for new plants!
Day 4
On the fourth day,
God made the sun, moon, and
stars. He said, “Let there be
light … to divide the day from
the night...” Just think of
God’s great power, that He
could put the sun, moon and
stars into the sky and make
our earth turn for night and
day!
Day 5
Then, on the fifth day,
God made the creatures of
the sea and the birds of the
air.
He made the fishes and the
birds in all shapes, sizes and
colors!
Day 6 On the sixth day
God created the beasts, cattle and creeping
things. But there was one thing left to be
done. Do you remember what that was?
God had not yet made people! Now the earth
was ready for man.

And God created man in His own image, in the

image of God He created them, male and
female. God created them to rule over all that
He had made.

God saw everything He had made, and he was

happy, for it was all very good!
And on the
seventh day,
God ended His work
which He had done,
and He rested
from all the work
which He had made.
The Holy
Rosary
October is the month of the Rosary.
October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of
the Rosary.
And this year on October 13th, it will
be the 104th year anniversary of Our
Lady of Fatima and the miracle of the
Sun.
Our Lady of Fatima is also known as
Our Lady of the Rosary.
Catholics pray the rosary because
it’s a powerful prayer to God,
through His mother, Mary.

In many apparitions, Mary has

appeared holding a rosary and has
asked that we continue to pray this
prayer. She always leads us to her
Son, and presents our needs before
Him.

In 1917, our Blessed Mother appeared to the shepherd children Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco in
the town of Fatima in Portugal. Our Lady of Fatima asked the children to pray the Rosary every
day for world peace.
Prayer is about having a personal
relationship with God, and loving Him
more. And we can get to know Him more
through the events of the life of Christ that
we think about during
the Rosary.

When you pray the Rosary, imagine the

important events in the life of Jesus. And as
you pray, think of each Hail Mary as a rose
that you give to our Blessed Mother. At the
end of the Rosary, you are able to offer to
our Mother Mary a whole crown of
beautiful roses!
How to Pray the Rosary
The Rosary helps us remember the special
events, or mysteries, in the lives of Jesus and
Mary.
● We begin by praying the Sign of the Cross
while holding the crucifix.
● Then we pray the Apostles’ Creed.
● We pray the Our Father as we hold the first
single bead.
● On each of the next three beads, we pray a Hail
Mary.
● Next we pray a Glory Be to the Father.
● On the next single bead, we think about the
first mystery, a particular event in the lives of
Jesus and Mary. We then pray the Our Father.
How to Pray the Rosary
Each of the 5 sets of 10 beads is called a decade.
● As we pray each decade, we reflect on a
different mystery.
● Between the sets is a single bead on which we
think about one of the mysteries and pray the
Our Father.
● We then pray a Hail Mary as we hold each of
the beads in the set.
● At the end of each set, we pray a Glory Be to
the Father.
● After the last decade we pray the Hail Holy
Queen.
● We end by holding the crucifix as we pray the
Sign of the Cross.
Mysteries of the Holy Rosary
1.Joyful Mysteries are usually prayed on Mondays,
Saturdays and during Advent.
2.Luminous Mysteries are usually prayed on
Thursdays.
3.Sorrowful Mysteries are usually prayed on Tuesdays,
Fridays, and during Lent.
4.Glorious Mysteries are usually prayed on
Wednesdays and Sundays (except during Lent)
I Have the
Responsibility to Take
Good Care of Myself
Why do children like you
need to be healthy?
A child needs to be healthy
- to be free from sickness
- to make the mind and body strong
- to feel at ease, relaxed and calm
- to be able to develop your skills and
talents as you grow
How can you
keep your
body healthy
and strong?
Eat the right kind of food
like vegetables and fruits.

By eating healthy food,

you will get the nutrients
you need to be strong
and healthy.
Take a bath regularly.

You need to wash off the

sweat and dirt in your
body to avoid getting
sick.
Exercise regularly.
Make sure that you are
physically active.

Physical activities help your

bones and muscles become
strong, and let you maintain
a healthy weight. They also
keep your brain healthy.
Get at least 8 hours of
sleep at night.

Your body needs to recharge

at night so that you will have
enough energy in the
morning.
Drink at least 8 glasses of
water every day.

The cells in your body will

stop working without water.
You also need water to
digest food and get rid of
waste from the body.
Brush your teeth after
every meal.

Brushing helps prevent bad

breath and tooth decay.
Unhealthy teeth and mouth
may also make other organs
in your body unhealthy.
Use your own comb,
toothbrush, and towel
because these are
your personal things.

Avoid sharing personal

belongings as this may
cause the spread of
diseases.
Wash your hands
frequently.

Wash your hands before and

after eating, and after using
the toilet. Frequent
handwashing will remove
dirt, virus and germs that
might make you sick.
Avoid eating junk foods
or too much sweets.

These kinds of food are low

in nutrients and minerals.
They contain chemicals
which are not good for the
body.
When we do things to make our
body clean and healthy,
it means we are taking good care
of our body,
which is a gift from Daddy God.
Read and memorize these memory verses:

Luke 18:16 “Let the little children come to me.”

Psalm 104:24 “How varied are your works, Lord! In wisdom you
have made them all”

Matthew 18:3 “Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become
like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Mark 10:43-44 “Whoever wishes to become great among you must be

your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of
all.”
Saints To Remember and Follow
Mark was a friend of the apostle Peter.
Peter told Mark all about Jesus. Mark
loved Peter’s stories about Jesus so
much that he recorded them for others to
read. The Gospel of Mark tells about
Jesus’ life, teachings, and miracles.
St. Therese the Little Flower of Jesus
St. Therese, the Little Flower, was a French
Carmelite nun in Lisieux who died of
tuberculosis at the young age of 24. She was
born in 1873, died in 1897, and was proclaimed
to be the 33rd doctor of the Catholic Church in
1997.

Her mother died when she was only 4 years

old, and she suffered mightily from intestinal
problems, headaches, and an undiagnosed
illness. It wasn’t until the Blessed Virgin Mary
appeared to her while she was sick that she
got completely well.
When she was 15 and too young
to enter the Carmelite Monastery,
she pleaded her case before Pope
Leo XIII himself, who told her that if
God willed it, she would indeed
enter the monastery at such a
young age. God did will it, as enter
it she did.

While there, she wrote and directed

plays, did menial household
chores, as well as performed
duties taking care of the sacristy.
St. Therese is known for “The Little
Way.” It is the way of those who do not
wish to become rich and famous, but
instead those who want to serve God
through their littleness and simplicity
and love.

In other words, St. Therese knew that

she was not capable of great
sacrifices, or of performing great and
mighty works. She chose to remain as
a child in the eyes of God, performing
all her duties with love and obedience,
no matter how small and ordinary they
were.
St. Francis of Assisi

God by showing that he cared for all of God’s
creation. St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint
of animals and our environment. St. Francis was
