Why is audio theory important?

• Be self-managed – do not need much assistance from others

KEY AREAS OF AUDIO THEORY:

Signal chain & effects:

- Studio musicians will need to use a number of effects, and they must manage their signal chain
effectively in the studio

Microphones
- Studio musicians need to understand how to use microphones, and how to properly place the
microphones to get a clear sound that is accurate to what they are trying to present.

File formats
- Must know how to share, export and send various audio files to others for collaboration and general use

STRATEGIES FOR MAINTAINING AND
EXPANDING MY AUDIO THEORY KNOWLEDGE
• Work with other people who have similar interests as well as differentiating musical interests
• Experiment with composing my own music and writing songs
• Look for advice/assistance from others - build connections with others
How can I apply my audio theory knowledge in the audio industry?
I can begin applying my audio theory knowledge through composing and producing songs in
my own bedroom, and start experimenting and trying out new things (writing, listening to
other styles of music to broaden my range)

- Convention for music products, retailers and wholesalers

- Allows people to meet others who are looking to purchase or find new equipment for a
number of different purposes (studio, personal, professional)
- It would allow me to meet a number of new people, and see what others are doing with
their careers in the music industry.

- Famous convention in the US, with performances, presentations and talks from
experienced musicians
- It would not only allow me to meet a number of people who may have experience in the
areas that I am interested in, but it would also let me find out about pathways that I may
not be aware of.
