• Chidren with special needs are characterized
as below:
• Child with Visual impairment
• Child with Hearing impairment
• Child with Physical impairment
• Child with Intellectual Disability
• Children with special needs may experience a
range of emotional problems due to the
challenges they face in various aspects of their
lives. The emotional problems can vary
depending on the specific disability or special
needs a child has, as well as their individual
personality and coping mechanisms
• Some common emotional problems
experienced by children with special needs
include:
• Anxiety • Low self-

Anxiety
• Children with special needs may feel anxious
about social situations, changes in routine, or
their ability to cope with everyday tasks. This
anxiety can manifest as generalized anxiety,
social anxiety, or specific phobias.

causing children to feel inadequate or
different from their peers, leading to low self-
esteem.

others easily and could fall prey to
inappropriate company as like other children.

• Some children may experience sleep
disturbances due to anxiety or sensory issues
related to their special needs.

Difficulty coping with change
• Many children with special needs thrive on routines,
and changes in routine or environment can cause
significant distress and anxiety.
• Imagine a situation where a child with visual
impairment is shifted to hostel for further education,
his room is on 3rd floor, mess is on ground floor and
he has to take the bus for his routine classes………..
Bullying and victimization
• Children with special needs could be target of
bullying and victimization and also be
subjected towards harassment and abuse
• In that case, ne vigilant and be their savior

• Listen to child’s problem
• Observe him in class, Playground and other
settings
• Gather history of problem
• What is his routine at home and in school?
• To whom he is close ?
• Gather all information, refer to the psychologist
if required and deal the problem immediately.

across with a child having special needs facing
any of the emotional problems we discussed.
