INTRODUCTION
Drones are the advanced unmanned aerial vehicles which have versatile applications. They
are used for the purpose of aerial surveying also referred as Drone mapping.
HISTORY :
 British Meteorologist E.D. Archibald in the year 1882.
 Principle: Remote Sensing & Surveying.

DRONE SUVEYING ?
A drone survey refers to the use of a drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), to capture a
number of geotag images with downward-facing sensors, such as RGB or multispectral
cameras, and LIDAR payloads.

DRONE MAPPING:
It the process of taking pictures from the air and using software to digitally
“stitch” them together into a 3D map of a worksite.
OBJECTIVE
To generate 2D maps and 3D model of a surveyed area.
WORKFLOW
Site selection

Planning GCPs

Drone selection

 Flight path Flight planning

 Flight parameters (Drone deploy)

Image acquisition

Processing of images
 3D Point cloud
(Pix4D Mapper software)
 Orthomosaic map
 Digital surface model
Outputs
 3D Mesh
Site selected(Area of interest):
Ground Control Points :

GCPs are points on the ground with accurate known coordinates.

Usually 4 to 10 GCPs are required.
The coordinates are taken using Google Earth Pro.

Drone selected :

DJI Mavic Air 2S

Flight planning :
It is done by using Drone deploy
application.

Flight altitude = 200 ft.

Frontal overlap = 75% .
Side overlap = 70%

Fly & Capture images :
 Take off area should be in level and free from obstructions.
 Download or copy the images to the desktop.
 Review the images , delete takeoff & blurry images.

Proceed with processing step in Pix4D mapper software.
