Lipid lowering property of Spinacia Olarecea leaf extract in pork fat induced lyperlipidemic
Abstract

The lipid lowering property of Spinacia oleracea leaf ethanolic

extract was investigated in cholesterol diet-induced
hyperlipidemic rats in comparison of a known standard lipid
lowering drug Simvastatin (10mg). Oral administration of
diluted 23.6g of the ethanolic extract of Spinacia oleracea
leaves exhibited a significant reduction of (p 0.000) in serum
lipid levels consist of Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, and
VLDL. Significant reduction of (P=0.005) was obtained in LDL
levels and a (P=0.000) significant increase in HDL levels. The
extract has the potential to act as antihyperlipidemic drug.
