TYPES OF TYRES

BY SANKALP UDAY SALUNKE

TYRE

A tyre is a ring-shaped component that surrounds a wheel's rim to transfer a

vehicle's load from the axle through the wheel to the ground and to provide
traction on the surface over which the wheel travels.
SUMMER TYRES

Summer tyres provide better all-round performance in the warmer months. They

have a relatively hard compound which softens in milder temperatures to be able
to adapt to dry as well as wet roads. Summer tyres have fewer sipes than
winter tyres, but have specially designed tread bars to minimise aquaplaning.
WINTER TYERS

Winter tyres have a higher natural rubber content which gives them a softer
structure. The interplay between the tyres' rubber compound and the road
changes as temperatures rise. ... Summer tyres harden below +7 degrees C
while winter tyres' specially developed compound guarantees flexibility, even
below +7 degrees C.
WET-WEATHER TYRES

Rain tyres or Wet tyres ("tires" in American English, commonly shortened to wets)

are special tyres used in motorsport in wet weather as opposed to a slick tyre used
in dry conditions. They are very similar in many ways to the tyres found on normal
road cars.
ALL SEASON TYRES

All season tyres come integrated with an innovative and robust tread that lasts
longer and is capable of running on all types of surfaces. They provide good
traction on water logged roads, similar to the winter tyres and can also be vouched
for a firm grip on dry, rough and sand covered patches.
ALL TERRAIN TYRES

All-terrain tires are used for traction on all kinds of surfaces, including on and off-
road. They combine the open-tread design of off-road tires with the good handling
of street tires. It's important to remember that as this type of tires is all-purpose.
RUN FLAT TYRES

Run flat tires are tires on which you can continue driving after a puncture so you
can take time get to an auto shop or find a safe, level area to change your tire. You
can't drive on them indefinitely, though.
RADIAL TYRES

In radial tyres the steel belts run at a 90-degree angle with the tread line. It allows
the sidewall and the tread of the tyre to function independently. Thus, there is low
sidewall flex and more contact with the ground.
PERFOMANCE TYRES

Performance tires are designed to give owners of sports cars and other vehicles
increased handling response and traction, particularly in wet and dry
conditions. ... Performance tires feature unique tread patterns, construction
features, and rubber compounds to provide enhanced precision, responsiveness,
and traction.
TUBE

Tube Tyres
The tube inside the tyre is pumped with air. When a puncture takes place due to
any sharp foreign object, the object effectively penetrates both the tube and tyre.
The tube tyre has an instant release of air which can prove very dangerous on a
highway or driving anywhere at high speed.
TUBELESS

Tubeless tires are pneumatic tires that do not require a separate inner tube. ...

A tubeless bicycle tire system requires a compatible tire, an airtight rim—capable
of being sealed at the valve stem, spoke holes
ECO TYRES

The new Ralco Ecoracer motorcycle tyre is an environment-friendly tyre. ... Silica

reduces the friction between the road &tyre enabling smooth movement due to
low rolling resistance and thus enhances the performance of the vehicle.
AIRLESS AND PUNCHERLESS TYRES

The Uptis features a different architecture and composite materials, which enables
the tyre to bear the car's weight at road-going speeds. Approximately 200
million tyres worldwide are scrapped prematurely every year as a result of
punctures, damage from road hazards or improper air pressure that causes uneven
wear.
