COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Chapter:7 Speaking with clarity

Moving your tongue:

 If your tongue is taut or flops around in your mouth like a wet fish,
you strain to speak clearly. Tease your tongue and release tension
by repeating the following exercise five times.
 Double your tongue back against your palate as far as you can and
then stretch it outward from your mouth as far as possible.
 Round your lips tightly then groove your tongue and push it
through the opening.
 Push your tongue hard against one cheek and then the other . Lick
your lips in a circular fashion over the upper lip and down over the
lower lip. Then waggle your tongue from side to side.
 Press the upper surface of your surface of your tongue against your
palate and release.Repeat, increasing the speed of the motion.
 Emphasizing your point:
Emphasizing a point
that is possible through the use of voice , vocabulary and
sentence manupalation . The combination or two or more
of these methods amplifies the intended effect . Emphasis
can indicate the importance of a point or topic.
PITCHING:

 Therelative highness or lowness of a tone as

perceived by ear is called pitch.
 We use pitch in order to express our emotions and
attitude through a change in our intonations or tone
of our voice. The speaking pitch matters both within
the individual words and in the context also.
 To add colour and excitement to your speech, add inflection
by altering the pitch of your voice. When you’re excited let
the sound reverberate out of the top of your head. When
you’re sharing your feelings, speak from your heart. If you
like to want to sound like an authority, let your voice
resonate from your chest, bouncing off your sternum and
when you want to convey the wisdom of your ages, drop
your voice to deep within your body.
 Ifyour volume is too loud ,you may come across as
sounding aggressive, defiant and angry. Conversely , if your
voice is too soft, you can sound bored, tired or shy.
