MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY
Knowledge is created and disseminated in all forms and formats. Media and
information increase every day and it becomes so abundant that it can be found
anywhere, anytime especially in the booming era of data and information
explosion (UNESCO, 2017).

“Media and Information Literacy consists of the knowledge, the attitudes, and
the sum of the skills needed to know when and what information is needed;
where and how to obtain that information; how to evaluate it critically and
organize it once it is found; and how to use it in an ethical way (Redlands, 2019).
IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA & INFORMATION

1. Inherent bias in media
Media literacy can help people recognize biases in the
media and how they may affect their perception of an
event or issue.

2. Media literacy as an educational tool

Media literacy can also be used to learn about new ideas,
cultures, and perspectives that may not have been
previously considered.

3. Critical Thinking
Learning how to critically analyse media provides
students with skills they need when entering college or
starting their careers.

4. Taking charge
The more aware we are of what’s happening around us
in our communities, schools, and workplaces – the
better equipped we’ll be to create change.

One of the dramatic developments in 21st century is

the development of technology. With the rapid
growth of technology, technology has become
indispensable in people’s daily lives.
One of the most important changes from
technology is education.
• Technology has been a part of teaching and
learning in the past as well.
