ANALIE D. LOMOTOS
MASTER TEACHER 1
PROBLEM
• Increasing number of Non-
numerates in Grade 3
REASONS FOR THE CONTINUOUS RISING NUMBERS
OF NON-NUMERATES
 1. Unlike reading, math is almost always formally learned at
school. Parents are often less well-equipped to help their
children with math, at a time when parent support can be
even more crucial to student progress.
 2. Broader stress and trauma related to the pandemic may
worsen existing math anxiety in some students, and math
anxiety can exacerbate students’ other stress while in class.
 3. It can be more challenging for teachers to engage in
effective math instructional practices via remote platforms.

MET-MULTIPLY EASY TRICKS
Multiplying 5 times any number
When multiplying the number 5 by an even number, there is a quick way to find the
answer.
For example, 5 x 4 =
Step 1: Take the number being multiplied by 5 and cut it in half, this makes the number
4 become the number 2.
Step 2: Add a zero to the number to find the answer. In this case, the answer is 20.
5 x 4 = 20
When multiplying an odd number times 5, the formula is a bit different.
For instance, consider 5 x 3.
Step 1: Subtract one from the number being multiplied by 5, in this instance the
number 3 becomes the number 2.
Step 2: Now halve the number 2, which makes it the number 1. Make 5 the last digit.
The number produced is 15, which is the answer.
5 x 3 = 15

 Multiplying by 9

This is an easy method that is helpful for multiplying any number by

9. Here is how it works:
Let’s use the example of 9 x 3.
Step 1: Subtract 1 from the number that is being multiplied by 9.
3–1=2
The number 2 is the first number in the answer to the equation.
Step 2: Subtract that number from the number 9.
9–2=7
The number 7 is the second number in the answer to the equation.
So, 9 x 3 = 27

  10 and 11 times tricks
The trick to multiplying any number by 10 is to add a zero to the end of the number. For example, 62 x 10 =
620.
There is also an easy trick for multiplying any two-digit number by 11. Here it is:
11 x 25
Take the original two-digit number and put a space between the digits. In this example, that number is 25.
2_5
Now add those two numbers together and put the result in the center:
2_(2 + 5)_5
2_7_5
The answer to 11 x 25 is 275.
If the numbers in the center add up to a number with two digits, insert the second number and add 1 to the
first one. Here is an example for the equation 11 x 88
8_(8 +8)_8
(8 + 1)_6_8
9_6_8
There is the answer to 11 x 88: 968
MET-MULTIPLY EASY TRICKS
 Tough multiplication
When multiplying large numbers, if one of the numbers is even,
divide the first number in half, and then double the second
number. This method will solve the problem quickly. For instance,
consider
20 x 120
Step 1: Divide the 20 by 2, which equals 10. Double 120, which
equals 240.
Then multiply your two answers together.
10 x 240 = 2400
The answer to 20 x 120 is 2,400.
MET-MULTIPLY EASY TRICKS
 Multiplying numbers that end in zero
Multiplying numbers that end in zero is actually quite simple. It
involves multiplying the other numbers together and then adding
the zeros at the end. For instance, consider:
200 x 400
Step 1: Multiply the 2 times the 4
2x4=8
Step 2: Put all four of the zeros after the 8
80,000
200 x 400= 80,000

Exploring some math word problems and learn how to solve them
Addition
1. Combined or joined together
Question- A Children have 5 cookies and 2 ice cream. What will be the
result if all cookies and icecreams combined or joined together?

Solution- Here, combined or joined together represent the addition

calculation. So the result will be-5+2=7

2. Sum
Example- What will be the sum of 5 mangoes and 5 apples?

Solution- the sum will be 5+5=10

3. Plus
Question-What should be the answer for 5 plus 7?

Solution- the answer should be 5+7=12

4. Added to
Question- The age of Liza and Anderson is 5 and 10 years, respectively. When the age of
Liza is added to the age of Anderson, it becomes the age of Peter. What is the age of Peter?

Solution- Here, we need to read every word of the statement attentively. Then solve the
problem step by step.
Age of Lize= 5 years
Age of Anderson= 10 years. When the age of Lize is added to the age of Anderson, it gives
the age of Peter
5+10=15=age of the Peter.
So the age of Peter is 15 years.

5. Increased by
Question- The breadth of a rectangle is 5 cm, and when we increase the breadth by 3cm, we get the length of
the rectangle. What is the area of the rectangle?

Solution- In these types of questions picture helps us a lot.We need to draw a picture over here and label it.
Firstly write down the dimensions.
Breadth= 5cm
length=breadth+3=8cm
Length= 8cm
Area= l x b

Now the area is 8🗙5= 40 cm^2

1. Decreased by
Question- The rectangle length is 8 cm, and when the length is
decreased by 3 cm, we get the breadth of the rectangle. What is the
area of the rectangle?

Solution- Here length = 8cmBreadth= 8-3 =5 cm

We know the area of a rectangle is l 🗙 bSo the answer will be= 8Х5= 40
Cm^2

2. Minus
Question: We have two terms 75 and 25; when we minus these two
terms, we get the 2 times of the second term. What will be the answer?

Solution- We have two terms75 and 25

minus these terms=75-25= 50
50 is twice the second term(25). Hence the answer is 50.

3. Less by
Question- What should be the answer when we less 75 by 25?

Solution- Students get confused when they read the statements like
above. But in this question, we simply need to subtract 25 from 75.
Because less word indicates the subtraction and we should know
these terms to avoid any confusion.

Division
1. Per
Question- There are 20 students in a class. And the teacher has 60 candies. How
many candies will she distribute per student?

Solution- The per word indicates the division of candies according to the number
of students. Here we have to calculate the number of candies for a single student.
So, to calculate this, we need to divide the number of candies by the number of
students.
Number of candies for a single student= 60/20=3 candies per student
