What is communication for work
purposes?
 Workplace communication is the exchange of
information between employees in a work environment.
This includes face-to-face conversations, emails, chat
messages, videoconferencing, phone calls, and other
methods used to convey information in the workplace.
Nonverbal communication like eye contact, body
language, and tone of voice are also important aspects
of workplace communication.
What is the purpose of communication
for workplace?
 Communication in the workplace is important because
it boosts employee morale, engagement, productivity,
and satisfaction. Communication is also key for better
team collaboration and cooperation. Ultimately,
effective workplace communication helps drive better
results for individuals, teams, and organizations.
What is the importance of communication in
the healthcare workplace?

 When health care professionals are not communicating


effectively, patient safety is at risk for several reasons:
lack of critical information, misinterpretation of
information, unclear orders over the telephone, and
overlooked changes in status. Lack of communication
creates situations where medical errors can occur.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN
HEALTHCARE?

 For nurses, good communication in healthcare means


approaching every patient interaction with the intention
to understand the patient's concerns, experiences, and
opinions. This includes using verbal and nonverbal
communication skills, along with active listening and
patient teach-back techniques.

 When interviewing a patient, consider using touch to
show caring and compassion.
 Use consciously and sparingly.

 Make and keep eye contact at all times.
 Provide your name and use patient’s proper name.
 Tell patient the truth.

 Forthe hearing-impaired patient, face patient so he or she
can read your lips.
 Allow the patient time to answer or respond.
 Act and speak in a calm, confident manner.

 Writing resume and application letter is not new


to you since you had a course in your JHS and SHS
where you look these topics. The concepts here
will reinforce the skills you learned in resume and
letter writing.
Brainstorming for your CV
Know what information a CV generally
contains. Most CVs include your personal
information, your education and
qualifications, your work experience, your
interests and achievements, your skills, and
references.
Also experienced people tailor your resume to
the job you are applying for. Use a modern
but professional format. However, there is no
set format for a CV, what you include is up to
you
Consider the job you are
applying for.
 Research the company. A good CV is
tailored to the specific job and
company you are applying for.
What does the company do?
What is their mission statement? What
do you think they are looking for in an
employee?
What skills does the specific job you
are applying for require?
These are all things to keep in mind
when writing your CV
Check the company’s website
for extra information about the
CV. 
See if there is any specific
information they want you to list
in your CV. There might be
specific directions listed on the
application page. Always double
check this
Make a list of jobs you
have held. These can
be both jobs you hold
currently and jobs you
have held in the past.
Include the dates that
you began and ended
your term at each
particular job.
Brainstorm your hobbies and
interests. Unique interests or
hobbies will make you stand out.
Be aware of the conclusions that
might be drawn from your hobbies.
Try to list hobbies that portray you
as a team-oriented individual
rather than as a solitary, passive
person. Companies want someone
who works well with others and
can take charge if need be.
•Make a list of your relevant
skills. These skills often include
computing skills (are you a wiz at
Wordpress, Excel, in Design? etc.),
languages you speak, or specific things
the company is looking for, such as
targeted skills
•Example of targeted skills: If you are
applying to be a writer for a newspaper,
list that you are fluent in AP style.
•If you are applying for a coding job,
mention that you have worked with
JavaScript.

What is the definition of documentation and reporting in
nursing?

Reporting is oral communication between care


providers that follows a structured format and
typically occurs at the start and end of every shift
or whenever there is a significant change in the
resident. Documentation is a legal record of
patient care completed in a paper chart or
electronic health record (EHR).
WHAT IS A PATIENTS CHART?

A patient medical chart, commonly referred to as just a patient chart, is a


complete and total record of a patient's clinical data and medical history .

• include vitals, medications, treatment plans, allergies, immunizations, test


results, patient demographics, diagnoses, progress notes and reports. All
information in patient charts comes from nurses, lab technicians, physicians
and other practitioners involved in the patient's care.
Why is the patient chart important?

Patient charts are important tools that help healthcare providers


provide the best possible care to their patients. By having all of
the relevant information in one place, charts make it easier for
providers to track a patient's progress and make decisions about
their care.
FDAR
- is an acronym that stands for focus, data, action,
and response. Focus charting assists nurses in
documenting patient records by providing a
systematic template for each patient and their specific
concerns and strengths to be the focus of care.

Tips on improving communication skills in the
workplace
Here are a few tips to help you improve communication in the
workplace:
•Practice self-awareness: Be aware of the nonverbal messages you
are sending. When our verbal communication relays one message
but our nonverbal cue relay another, we risk creating confusion. 

•Be an active listener: Understand that communication is a two-


way process. Recognize when it’s time to communicate and when
you need to step back and actively listen to the other party.

•Model good communication: Communication skills need to not


only be taught but also modeled and practiced.

•Create a positive working environment: Communication is best


practiced in a safe and supportive environment where employees
feel that they can express their ideas and creativity.
