• The system is a pneumatic powered metal made pick and place arm. It
demonstrates how a pneumatic power can be utilized to achieve pick and place
mechanism.
• The system makes use of 4 pneumatic actuators to achieve the purpose. The
robotic arm is controlled by 4 pneumatic valves. The valves control the air flow to
the pneumatic actuators in order to control the movement of the cylinder stroke.
• The valves give a manual control to control over the entire arm movement. The
system uses a gripper arm operated by a small cylinder to operate the grip.
• .The other valves work in coordination to achieve the complete arm movement
held together by a series of linkages and connector rods.
INTRODUCTION
• Pneumatic pick and place mechanisms are devices that use compressed air to control the
movement of objects. They are commonly used in manufacturing and assembly processes to
transfer and position small components or objects from one place to another with high
• These mechanisms typically consist of an air compressor, a pneumatic cylinder, and a gripper
or suction cup for grasping and releasing objects. The operation of a pneumatic pick and
which sends signals to the solenoid valves to control the flow of compressed air.
•The pneumatic cylinder provides the force necessary to grip and release the object.
LITERATURE REVIEW1/4
• Mankind has always strived to give life like qualities to its artifacts in an
attempt to find substitutes for himself to carry out his orders and also to work
in a hostile environment. The popular concept of a robot is of a machine that
looks and works like a human being.
• The industrial robots of today may not look the least bit like a human being
although all the research is directed to provide more and more
anthropomorphic and humanlike features and super-human capabilities in
these.
• One type of robot commonly used in industry is a robotic manipulator or
simply a robotic arm. It is an open or closed kinematic chain of rigid links
interconnected by movable joints.
• In some configurations, links can be considered to correspond to human
anatomy as waist, upper arm and forearm with joint at shoulder and elbow.

PNEUMATIC CYLINDER
• Diving cylinder, used by scuba divers to hold air and other breathing gases at high
pressure underwater; Pneumatic pressure vessel, for storing compressed air to
operate equipment such as braking systems, paint dispensers and paintball guns, Air
tank is also air compressor.
DIRECTIONAL CONTROL VALVES
• Directional control valves control the way the air passes and use for controlling the
commencement, termination and direction of air flow. Depending on the number of
paths the air is allowed to take, directional valves are termed as two way, three way,
and four way or multi way valves.
• The different number of ways by means the number of controlled connections of
the valve, inlet connections to the compressed air supply. The Outlet connection is
given to the air consumer and exhaust connection is given to the atmosphere
HOSE AND CONNECTER
• Improved Productivity
• Automated & Accurate Working
• Increased Efficiency
• Easy to operate
• Quick process
APPLICATION
• used in the food processing industry to handle and sort food products such as fruits,
vegetables, and packaged foods.
• Inspection and testing: The pick and place mechanism can also be used for
inspection and testing of products to ensure quality control. For example, it can
pick up products from a production line and move them to a testing station, and
then place them back on the line based on the results of the test.
• Laboratory automation: The mechanism can be used in laboratory automation for
tasks such as sample handling, liquid dispensing, and microplate processing.
• Overall, the pneumatic pick and place mechanism is a versatile and efficient tool
used in various industries to automate and streamline their manufacturing and
assembly processes.
