• Often referred to as ‘’The Land of Smiles.’’


It got this nickname because in Thailand, a
smile is much more than just a smile…it is a
form of subtle interpersonal-messaging.
• Is famous predominantly for it’s wide
stretches of pristine beaches. Whilst many
such as Railey Beach are recognized for
their nightlife, there are calmer, family
friendly resorts too.
• Known for celebrating countless festivals,
including ancient arts and traditional foods.
• Located in the heart of Southeast Asia

2011 THAILAND FLOOD

• Flood lasted between mid-October


through November 11, inundating
two-thirds of the country including
the six industrial estates which
accounted for 70% of the total
damage in the manufacturing
sector in Thailand.
• Worst flood to occur in the history
of Thailand that caused 815
deaths and 13.6 million people
affected.
TYPHOON GAY

Also known as The Cavali Cyclone of 1989


Was a small but powerful tropical cyclone
that caused 437 deaths, over 68000
people were affected, 5000 rendered
homeless and 440 fisherman reportedly
missing.
It was also the worst typhoon in the
history of Thailand
DROUGHT IN THAILAND

• From November 2009 to August


2010, Thailand experienced a
devastating drought with
temperature exceeding 40
degrees Celsius, bringing
agriculture to a standstill.

WILDFIRE IN MONGOLIA

DZUD IN MONGOLIA

• Eight people died in a flood


that occurred in July 2020.
• It was also reported that 2,360
homes were flooded and the
flooding also caused damage to
livestock with 7,000 animals
killed.

meteorological hazards
including severe storms,
cyclones, typhoons, floods,
landslides, and coal erosion.

NATURAL HAZARDS IN VIETNAM

• An average of 430 people were killed each year by natural


disasters between 2007-2011 in Vietnam, with property loses
estimated at 1% of gross domestic product.
• Natural hazards include rare earthquakes and occasional typhoons
(May to January) with extensive flooding.
TYPHOON DURIAN(2006)

• In December 2006, Typhoon


Durian killed atleast 70 people
with 23 missing.
• More than 210,000 houses in
the country’s south were
damaged by the storm, which
also sank more than 800
noored fishing boats.
TYPHOON HAIYAN (2013)

• In November 2013, Typhoon


Haiyan made a landfall in
Vietnam.
• Death: 14

TYPHOON LEKIMA

• Occurred in Ocotober 2004. About


100,000 houses were destroyed and
atleast 77 people were recorded
dead or missing.
• Rescuers discovered the bodies of 11
ore people killed by landslides and
floods triggered by Typhoon Lekima
• The typhoon washed away 6,000
houses, damaged 52,000 houses and
destroyed about 80,000 hectares of
crops.
FLOODS
FLOOD IN CENTRAL VIETNAM

• The floods were mainly caused


by the seasonal monsoon,
though enhanced by multiple
tropical cyclones.
LANDSLIDE

• Heavy flooding and landslides


have hit Central Vietnam for
more than a week. Rescue
workers faced a dangerous
situation, after 3 members
died trying to reach a group of
30 employees of a
hydropowerplant that had
been buried by the landslides.
