Safety Valves

 Act as a protection of equipment from exploding or damaging

 Installed in pressure vessels (chemical, boilers and gas storage tanks)
 Automatically actuates when the pressure of inlet side of the valve increases to a
predetermined pressure
 To open the valve disc and discharge the fluid (steam or gas ) ; and when the pressure
decreases to the prescribed value, to close the valve disc again.
 A final safety device which controls the pressure and discharges certain amount of fluid
by itself without any electric power support
 Support not only the safety of energy industry but also the safety and security of our life
Pressure Safety Valve (PSV)

 Pressure Safety Valve - is the term used to

describe relief device on a compressible fluid
or gas filled vessel
 For such a valve the opening is sudden. When
the set pressure of the valve is reached, the
valve opens almost fully.
Pressure relief valve (PRV)

 Pressure Relief Valve - is the term used to

describe relief device on a liquid filled vessel
 For such a valve the opening is proportional to
increase in the vessel pressure
 Hence the opening of valve is not sudden, but
gradual if the pressure is increased gradually.
PSV types (Spring loaded)

 Spring Loaded PSV

 A Spring Loaded PSV is a Safety Valve in
which the Spring acts as a main Loading
Device.
PSV types (Pilot operated relief valve)

 Pilot Operated Relief Valve

 A pressure relief valve in which the major
relieving device is combined with and is
controlled by a self actuated auxiliary pressure
relief valve.
PSV types (Rupture Disk PSV)

 Rupture Disc PSV

 A non-mechanical over pressure relief device
that ruptures when its rating is achieved.
 A thin diaphragm is attached at one end which
bursts when the set pressure is achieved.
PSV types (Counter weight)

 A pressure relief valve in which weights are

used instead of spring to balance the fluid
pressure.
 A good example is a Pressure Cooker
 Calibration by counterweight, insuring
excellent long-lasting reliability
 Cost-effective maintenance, with no impact on
the calibration
