DESCRIPTION

• Examines the integration of cardinal


values and knowledge base into the
practice of Social Casework as a primary
method of Social Work. Specifically, it
will deal on the SW principles, process,
practice framework, models and
approaches, skills and techniques
necessary in applying the method to
emerging problems of individuals and
their families.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Cognitive
1. Discuss basic theories of social casework, such as the person in his/her social
environment, casework relationship, selected practice framework as they apply to the
process of helping individuals and their families..
2. Explain the SW process of helping individuals and families and corresponding skills of
the social worker from Intake to Termination.
3. Differentiate between case management and social casework as processes of working
with individuals and their families experiencing difficulty because of gender bias,
calamitous events, culture-based violence, and others.

1. Discriminately apply values, principles of casework in the helping relationship between
clients and the social worker,
2. Utilize appropriately the professional self in the helping relationship.

1. Demonstrate ability to engage clients in the helping relationship particularly in defining
and assessing the difficulty through the Intake interview.
2. Exhibit beginning competency in the use of selected practice frameworks, models and
approaches to respond adequately to emerging problems of individual clients and their
families such as gender-based violence, family conflict, role reversal, older persons
abuse, and similar situations,
3. Demonstrate reflexivity in process recording, journal writing, and preparation of case
studies

Week 11 to 13 - Deliberate on the helping process as it applies to various
cases such as children survivors of calamities and other emergencies, women in
especially difficult situations, elderly. OFW and special cases (LGBTQR)
Week 14 – Examine selected cases of gender-based violence committed against
women & children with focus on assessment to lay the groundwork for a more
responsive gender-based case management.

Week 15 – Demonstrate beginning competencies in applying selected


FINALS models/approaches, use of agency programs and services and community
resources to respond to common and emerging problems of the Filipino family.
